Should you give notice when leaving /stopping therapy?

I don't believe I have before.. I think I just emailed them and said I won't be in next week or thereafter due to.....etc. etc. I would feel so awkard giving a week or more notice and then coming in while they know I'm leaving them the following week. they would probably ask why. I think it is ok to just call or email and say, 'From here on forward I will be stopping therapy...' ?

I did tell my therapist when I would stop seeing them when I was with them in a session. They had upset me. I wasn't rash or quick tempered, when I said I could no longer see her, I recognized how she wasn't helping me. It was helpful for me to be that forthcoming with her. They are there to help you, if they are not helping you, I feel it's better to express when with them instead of hiding behind courtesy
