On the fourth day of Christmas, is it four calling birds or four colly birds?

I've seen both versions printed. I always sang "calling birds" when I was little. What is a colly bird anyway?

A colly bird is simply a blackbird.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Mustermann I thought they didn't look the same. Still, they are both nice, aren't they?
Mustermann · 36-40, M
@Crazychick Indeed they are!
Really · 80-89, M
@Crazychick You can tell by the number of legs (dog or bird)

You think that was bad.. I am still coming to terms with the golfing reference of a Partridge on a Par 3..😷

Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
I’ve only ever seen calling

GLITTER · 36-40, F
4 cauli birds as in cauliflower
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@GLITTER And what shape should the potatoes and carrots be? Not forgetting the sprouts. Lol :)
GLITTER · 36-40, F
@Crazychick potato’s and carrots mix and sprouts, well they can just be mini balls of hell
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@GLITTER Potatoes.
Either:

1) A sad & failed gene-splicing experiment.

or

2) A transcription by a non-native English speaker.

(Personally, I'm going with the second one.)

I've sometimes wondered that. Might "colly" bird be a an old colloquialism for the "collared dove"?
Science78 · 36-40, M
A bird that has a cowlick?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
A bird with colitis.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@uncalled4 Lol :)
