What's more likely to kill you first, if used in excessive amounts, salt,

Or sugar?
I have seen more people die as a result of diabetes than hypernatremia( excessive sodium or salt). Both excesses will result in one being admitted to ICU quickly. Neither is good.

Sodium chloride (normal table salt). You must stipulate normal table salt, because there are other types of salts that are instantaneously deadly.

Sugar is mostly carbohydrates and not that bad, if you're not a diabetic.

Also figure in if you are consuming iodized salt. Iodine can be pure poison in large amounts.

Salt as well dehydrates people without plenty of water taken in. Yet is good in keeping water in you if you are drinking plenty of water.

Many sports drinks have quite a bit of salt. Yet that is over come by the amount of water they have.

With water salt behaves as a electrolyte. Yes think batteries!

Must note sea water if drunk can kill you. Because of the amount of salt in sea water is very high. That is only around 2.5 to 3.5 percent salt.

@DeWayfarer I would just rephrase my question to make you come up with a simpler answer then,
Do you have hypertension, or diabetes, or none, or both, and which one is worse if you have both?

@YMITheWayIM have neither, yet obviously sugar isn't good for diabetics. Especially extreme amounts.

Hypertension I'm just not certain how badly sugar effects it. Probably not good yet not as bad as diabetics.

Salt can effect diabetics as well. Yet not as critical as sugar does.

If you are over weight and are diabetic I definitely would be concerned with salt. Water retention in diabetics that are over weight is well known in those that eat a lot of salt.

If you are over weight the combination of sugar and salt can exacerbated diabetes.

My mother was considered Prediabetic because of her weight once.

Losing the weight resolved her problem with diabetes. Yet not her water retention problems. Which caused her to have sores on her legs. So we had to monitor her salt intake.

And yes I had to clean and bandage her sores twice a day.

No idea about hypertension and salt.

I have known a few diabetics. None with hypertension.
