What exactly is social media good for ?

WhateverWorks · 36-40
Finding out what local events I might be interested in or happening and sending pictures of how I’m doing to family/friends that are far away. Lol.. I subscribe to a bunch of Sciency and artsy pages that post interesting facts or news.

The rest is trash. 🫢

Anger management course.
When you log into SW and notice a dozen different things you could rant about, but keep quiet.
Pfloyd121 · 46-50, M
@rrraksamam Never let anyone stop you from saying what you want to say

Bringing people together. Saving a life/lives. Companionship. News of family and friends etc. Now, don’t start with a list of negatives because we all know how negative and damaging it can be, but that’s not the question you asked.

@Carissimi I think i know what you mean but what exactly are you saying ?

Let's see, they host games to play. If you have family members who might live far away using social media can be a good way to stay in touch (even though we have these things called telephones and cellphones)

I honestly can't see any good in social media other than playing the games on the sites.

@Queendragonfly Yes but you have to be careful who you are doing all those things with
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Pfloyd121 Just stay anonymous
Pfloyd121 · 46-50, M
@Queendragonfly You cant always do that though

Getting to know people with other perspectives, viewpoints, experiences, cultures; near and far. Scares the hell out of the bigots and narrow-minded, which is why you have to fight your way through the trolls to find real people

@DDonde Give more details

@Pfloyd121 From the business point of view, social media platforms are very effective advertising platforms. Plus they often (SW doesn't do this as far as I know) collect data about your habits around the internet and on your phone in order to either sell that data about you to third parties or use that data to send you ads that are more relevant to your interests and habits. If they know that you go to McDonald's, they will more likely give you McDonald's ads and if they know you drink beer, they will more likely give you alcohol ads. And it's right in your phone as you scroll which is much more intimate than a billboard or newspaper/tv ad that you might not read.
