Any old farts that remember this one, it's sorta sad..

I remember it very well. It's on his first album, along with the sad song that prompted me to buy that album back in the early 70's. I still have and listen to it, and every song on it is pretty great. I really, really like John Prine.
I've never heard of that song.

@LadyGrace 1972 I think. It's a folk song. Towards the end of Vietnam war. Washington always called it a police action it was over. Peace treaty (Paris Accord) went into effect 27JAN73. The captain of the USS Fresno came over the PA system and just said that, he said the Paris Peace Accord went into effect.
We were sitting off the coast of DaNang maybe Hué South of the DMZ. We just turned East and sailed away.

Yes discovered Prine way back in my Navy days and sure I heard this one too back then. Been a fan all my adult life

@SW-User When were you in? I was in the Marines at that time 70-73. Have 11.5 months of sea duty, shellback. I was on amphibious assault ships, APA(east coast), LPH, LST West PAC
