My therapist told me we can create panic attacks by a certain short breathing so I do the opposite to calm down. Long - deep - breathes.
It also helps to think or say a word you associate with calm and safety. Toe beans for example.
If your thoughts are running I suggest venting them. In a post on SW or just write them down for yourself.
If it's extreme and you can't calm down despite trying with breathing techniques or venting then my go to is anxiety meds and to cuddle up in bed -nap and reboot the system.
