I Can't Sleep When I Have Too Much On My Mind

It's pretty often that I have trouble falling asleep. For some reason, I get distracted by the feeling of my heartbeat throughout my body, and it just keeps me up. I don't know why my mind focuses so much on that feeling. I have to go to bed 10 hours before the time I need to be up since it can take an hour or two just for me to fall asleep.

Does your heart beat fast or heavy?

@hiddenkitty: Do you have anxiety?

@Carver: Yeah, pretty often. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a connection between the anxiety and this feeling.

@hiddenkitty: You should try a breathing exercise before bed.

@Carver: Okay. Sometimes I consciously force myself to take deep breaths, but I'll try to look up some breathing exercises.

@hiddenkitty: I have one that helps me with my anxiety:

Be seated, sitting up straight with both feet planted flat on the floor, inhale through your nose for three seconds, exhale through your mouth for five seconds. Repeat three times or as many times as you need to settle yourself down.
