No Comfort in the Familiar

I don't go there anymore
Not one person came to the memorial
Not one person has called asking me how I am
They all wanted to small talk
Just like nothing happened
Watched me cry in the pew without asking me anything
All but one old lady who hugged me and knew what grief was
I'm at a loss to know why I tried to return
Maybe I was seeking out something familiar
But the first day I cried was the last day I was a part of the congregation

You really find out who your friends are when you find yourself in circumstances like this.

And I’m sorry you’ve experienced this.

I'm so very sorry Rae. You would think the congregation would be supportive. Sending virtual hugs. 🫂

Sounds like the church I used to go to. Full of phonies who went to church just to be seen.
