Can I ignore my jury duty letter? Or is that too risky? I really don’t feel comfortable attending.

You run the risk of getting in trouble for ignoring it. You can get fined, etc

On your summons should be instructions to submit a request to be excused or postponed. You can also explain that you simply don't feel comfortable.

I've been "summoned for jury duty twice" and each time I've never had to show up. They usually have a thing online that you can check after following the instructions. On the odd chance you do still have to show up and wait around in the juror lounge, you could still get sent home.

What about it is making you feel uncomfortable?
@Scribbles Not feeling comfortable is not a valid excuse.

@NativePortlander1970 Worth a try though. I like encouraging people who have lots of anxiety to express that they are uncomfortable. Because generally suffering in silence doesn't help.

And at the very least, someone might show extra consideration in making them feel more comfortable, and understanding their needs, you know? Or know that they may need a space for the person to calm down, etc.
@Scribbles In early 2020, before the covid hit I was summoned, and despite having a doctor's notice for excuse due to my terminal cariopulmonary disease, the judge threw it away and told me to sit with the others.

@NativePortlander1970 What a dick! Sorry that happened to you.

I hope you are not in awful pain, or that things can become somewhat manageable pain-wise.

Facing a terminal anything healthwise is so rough. I've seen people pass away from a terminal diagnosis but I've never had to face it for myself.

I don't know you, but I wish the best for you for whatever time you have left, that you have opportunities to make the most of your time and have moments of happiness and joy and the doctors can help with any suffering the best they can. That you get good palliative care...etc
@Scribbles Thank you. So far I'm still able to live on my own, drive, and do my own errands and appointments, but with my disease, CTEPH, it can degress quickly.
