How do you know if you’re panicking because of anxiety or panicking because there’s actually something wrong?

If I start feeling panicky, I'll pour myself a glass of wine or a shot of whisky, sip slowly and start asking myself some questions re. what could be causing the panic. With me, there's always a reason -- either lack of sleep, poor diet or something worrisome on my mind.
