I know it’s super edgy but…

I really relax by watching gore. Even my therapist has said it’s a mental problem.
I think I’m just really desensitized to it because I remember my dad putting on gore movies and videos for me as young as 3. It was the norm for me to watch horror and gore movies with him as bonding.
I honestly thought it was normal and wasn’t a problem at all until I began asking people around me if it also relaxes them or if they began watching it that young ad well.
I don’t think it’s a problem right? I mean I come home from work, lie down in bed to go to sleep and I’m either watching shock videos or some documentaries about really gruesome murders.

It's not weird, I'm the same way.

There was a study done a while back about it- the theory is that some people relax while watching scary/gory movies or true crime because it's a way to provide a safe space to process and release emotions related to trauma. In this sense, it can be a way to cope with and make sense of their own experiences.
