How tf do people afford to live alone nowdays?

Even if I wanted to live by myself, there is no way I could afford it on my own. I don't know how anyone survives without a roommate or S.O. to help financially.

Our apartment manager informed us that if we stay and renew our lease, the rent will go up to $3000 per month. Um EXCUSE ME??? How tf do y'all think we're gonna magically come up with a thousand extra dollars a month????

This country really needs to put a tight leash on these predatory fucking landlords. 😤

Damn seems like that's happening to a lot of people out here in Phoenix lately 🙄

Same at my house. At the beginning of the year it went up $700. From $1600 to $2300 😶

@ChiefJustWalks like I told somebody else I think rental properties are trying to make up for the fact that they could not evict anybody for 2 years cuz of the pandemic so people feel that far behind and then probably skipped out when the rent can do and could not afford five figures. So like everything else, the honest folks get to pay for the honest folks get to pay for the dishonest ones. Oh yes, other people Dodge responsibility and we get to pay for it.

@Punches Hardly. Property values are skyrocketing which leads to higher property taxes, supply and demand puts an increase on rental costs and inflation is always an excuse to raise rent, especially for property owners that luve off of rental income.
Rentals began to soar long before the pandemic.

@VisionQuest I have been lucky enough to live in a house that is paid for even though I do not own it. I have not had to price apartments or anything lately but from what I have heard yeah it is ridiculous right now

@Punches yeah I'm not an expert or anything so what do I know.. but I was thinking it had more to do with inflation & increased property values kinda like Visionquest said. But the eviction shit wouldn't surprise me either if that actually had anything to do with some circumstances 🤔

@ChiefJustWalks a lot of rental properties end up with plenty of undesirables so you know a lot of people were basically squatting since they could not be legally kicked out. Now the things Vision Quest said are true but I imagine the majority of rent hikes has to do with landlords being really far behind on their own debts.
