How tf do people afford to live alone nowdays?

Even if I wanted to live by myself, there is no way I could afford it on my own. I don't know how anyone survives without a roommate or S.O. to help financially.

Our apartment manager informed us that if we stay and renew our lease, the rent will go up to $3000 per month. Um EXCUSE ME??? How tf do y'all think we're gonna magically come up with a thousand extra dollars a month????

This country really needs to put a tight leash on these predatory fucking landlords. 😤

The solution to this is upzoning btw. More land zoned for high density housing -> more homes getting built -> more competition -> lower rents. Land value tax does a great job of greasing the wheels by making monopoly ownership infeasible.

Rent controls work in the short term, but they discourage new development.

@BlueVeins In Canada, rising interest rates have made new home buyers wary and resisting buying a new house so demand has increased. Yes, more high density housing seems to be the solution.
