How tf do people afford to live alone nowdays?

Even if I wanted to live by myself, there is no way I could afford it on my own. I don't know how anyone survives without a roommate or S.O. to help financially.

Our apartment manager informed us that if we stay and renew our lease, the rent will go up to $3000 per month. Um EXCUSE ME??? How tf do y'all think we're gonna magically come up with a thousand extra dollars a month????

This country really needs to put a tight leash on these predatory fucking landlords. 😤

It's getting bad. Luckily where I am we have rent control so if you're in a dwelling the landlord can only increase rent a certain amount per year usually between 1-2% But trying to get into a unit now is almost impossible. There's usually bidding wars and $3000 a month is about the going rate for a 1 bedroom apartment.

it says the average price is closer to $2500 a month which is what they generally list for but then you get into these bidding wars and they usually always go up to closer to 3000. Then you throw in utilities and a parking spot and who knows -_- It for sure it depends on where you go if you go right on the outskirts of town or into the suburbs you can get a bit cheaper. But regardless I rented by first apartment around 12 years ago and it was $650 a month for a JUNIOR 1 bedroom in a crap part of town. basically, not much bigger than a bachelor. That was including utilities and a parking spot. That same unit now goes for $2300 a month+Utilities and parking. It's insane I don't know how people do it.
