One of the most difficult records to break in sports has to be...

what?

I did some research and no NBA team has ever surpassed the Boston Celtics 8-peat from 1959-1966. I didn't even know such a record existed.

Ted Williams record of reaching base safely in 84 straight games? Johnny Vander Meer pitching two no-hitters in a row? Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points in one game?

@rinkydinkydoink There's a story that that ALMOST happened. Supposedly the owners of the Yankees and Red Sox were having dinner together and imbibing a bit over-much and began imagining what DiMaggio would do batting with Fenway's Green Monster and what Williams could do with Yankee Stadium's short porch -- and then began talking a trade. When they sobered up the next day they nixed the idea.
@ChipmunkErnie

Here's one for you - - - has there ever been a big league baseball game where every player on a team finished the game with the same batting average they had entering the game?

897 goals in hockey! Gretzky had it for the longest time!
@Goodluckwiththat

The 897 NHL regular season goals scored by Ovechkin looks unbeatable now, yep.
Goodluckwiththat · 61-69, M
@rinkydinkydoink he's playing another season too!
@Goodluckwiththat

Unbelievable. I remember the days when the Soviets didn't believe in using players over the age of 30 on their national "amateur" teams. They laughed at the idea of someone Gordie Howe's age playing in the NHL then in the WHA with his sons.

Ovechkin scored 36 goals in the RSL so his total regular season tally comes to 933 in both major leagues.

Btw, whereas Gretzky scored a total of 940 regular season goals in the NHL and the WHA combined, the elder Howe scored a combined 1071 in both leagues. That may be what Ovechkin is going for... (perhaps not)

@iamthe99

Nodding here. A quick search confirms this.

@rinkydinkydoink I know it was beaten in 1995/96 but nothing since
@iamthe99

I knew about Beamon's record that lasted forever but, yeah, googling confirmed what you said - - someone will set a great distance then it takes years and years for that to be broken and so on...
Secretariats 31 length victory in the Belmont
@KentuckyWildcats

Man o' War had to have been something else indeed to have beaten out Big Red as the thoroughbred of the 20th century.

Kobe dying in a helicopter crash. I mean, how many athletes do you think are going to die in TWO helicopter crashes?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Hmmm probably something involving physical capabilities combined with luck
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@rinkydinkydoink if it's gonna be hard you want the two dimensions of impossibility
@MartinTheFirst

Is this something out of a sci-fi movie?
