Our spirit is an illusion produced by our higher brain functions. Humans have the gift of abstract thinking. We can conceive the notion that our ego is separate from our physical bodies.
Fact is, when the body dies, and our brains cease to function, that’s all she wrote.
It would be nice to think we somehow continue afterwards, but realistically it goes against all the laws of physics. Just wishful thinking.
