Well let say you try to meditate..meaning ...not to think at all ....It is tricky cause either you gonna have a previous toughts popping out... here and there,, a distraction ..something that is triggering you at this time...or simply the little voice inside you head aking ( AM I THINKING ) '''And just this is a tought so that means your not in a meditative state of mind..
But I used a technic when I was in a bad place in my life and I would have scenarios , wonders, that would play in loop in my head and I couldnt just get rid of them and not only that...It would get worst and worst,,, Until A psychologiss suggested me to use the STOP technic..
Basicly...everytime an image...consecutive tought would come ...I would say ( think) STOP..
Than it would come back 2 minutes after.. STOP ...than it would come back 5 min after! But by doing that eventualy those toughts would come back what! every months..than years..???? It did work for me and I used this technic a lot as I was at the begining of my awakening!

The little hungry assholey demons within my mind rub their hands together and drool when I come into contact with negative energy. They love that energy and try to get me to focus on it above anything else. But a while ago I got tired of allowing those demons to stuff their faces. I realized they only ate and grew stronger if I served negativity on a silver platter. You have to deny them their meal. You have to realize that while the negativity will find its way to enter you, especially if you’re sensitive to absorbing such energies, that it’s up to you and you alone to decide how much power what you take in effects you. Negative energy exists and it always will. Denying that only makes it more conniving in how it reaches your vulnerable core. You let it in, hell, even smirk at it because you know that its efforts of overcoming to the degree it desires you are futile. Some days, it’ll win though. It’ll overtake you when your light is a bit too dim to fight it off, but even then it won’t be able to call your core home for long because upon awakening yourself to how much power you possess, you hit this level of self-awareness that automatically means so many things trying to come at you have lost their fight before it’s even begun. The negativity reminds us how powerful our light can be, even when we thought it was too dim to vanquish anything away. And the same mind that opens the door for negativity is the same mind that gets bored quickly of its antics and helps you usher it out the door quicker and quicker. Once you teach your mind how powerless negativity truly is, the more it’ll see it as a pathetic enemy not worthy of using time and energy to battle with. The bouts get shorter, less powerful until they become the true nothing they are to the precious life you’re living.
TL;DR...Awaken yourself to the power you hold within you and use it to fight all the fuckers who try to fuck with you right the fuck off.

Honestly, a fuck load of meditation and physically getting away from the situation. Even if it's hard to, go get out in nature when you can and blow it away.

These days i say "calm down, its okay" I stay quiet n curse inside my head. In few minutes I get back to normal.
