Why don't Muslim clerics speak out more against terrorism? [Spirituality & Religion]

Allelse · 36-40, M
A fair few actually do but since its often within their own communities its not reported on very often. Actually, the most recent idiot who blew himself up in Manchester got kicked out of his Mosque for being too radical and the folk in the Mosque rang up the terrorist cops and said "this kid is nuts!!" but, I guess nobody was paying attention.

[c=#4C0073]they do, u would have to actually watch their sermon to know ..
being on SW asking why this and why that, wont get u there .. the reason for that is simple, our media rarely reports it[/c]
Hanging2 · 51-55, M
They do in my country.
Perhaps it is the media not reporting the message that is the problem
@Hanging2: I think you're right---it doesn't fit the Western media's narrative.
Peaceful · F
They do ALL the time. Why don't you bother paying attention? 🙄
HeadphonesDude · 31-35, M
You are welcome to any mosque near you.

They do. How many Muslim clerics do you know?
Theosis · 56-60, M
@KaliKali: zero
SW-User
@Theosis: How would you know what they do and don't speak out against?
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Many do, it just doesn't get much attention.
They have been, since before 9/11. People like you are not listening.
Theosis · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard: oh I'm listening... trust me.

@Theosis: BB is the type of woman who hunts incessantly for instances of microaggressions to beat up her society. Yet in the face of real atrocity and real human rights abuses she's all too ready to turn away with apologist nonsense
@Theosis: Not if you're only getting your news from sources who aren't interested in reporting when clerics and community leaders have spoken out against such acts.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
It is an interesting thought.
There are endless videos of raging extremist 'clerics' publicly calling for all sorts of attrocities. Yet you never see a moderate one. In public, declaring the opposite.
I wonder if this is out of fear of being singled out by the more extremist element ?
Media also has a big role to play.
Western media is more likely to show the extremist rather than the moderate.
That's as true of Western religion and politics as it is of Eastern !
TheProphet · M
They do, but the leaders don't.
HeadphonesDude · 31-35, M
@lastbabyboomer: They may hold the title of leadership, but I do not think we can call them our leaders.
TheProphet · M
@HeadphonesDude: How would you describe the Imans and Aytollas then in Iran. Saudi, Yemen, and Egypt. I'd say they are the leaders.
HeadphonesDude · 31-35, M
@lastbabyboomer:

I think ayatollahs lead the shia population. (Shia linguistically means group that broke away from the main stream - if I remember correctly).

Let's do an experiment and publish some cartoons of Mohhamed, do a billboard against Islam - that will bring the Muslim crowds out protesting. People will be killed.

That's what will bring the crowds out. Not Manchester or any other terrorist attack done in the name of their religion.
TheProphet · M
@Faerylight: Draw him fucking a pig.
Theosis · 56-60, M
I watch BBC and CNN all the time and rarely hear Muslim clerics speaking out against ISIS and other radical Muslim groups.

@Theosis: i'm christian, and i regularly catch islamic tv broadcast either live or recorded, over the internet .. there are many but my favourite is guideus.tv
Theosis · 56-60, M
Well, I prefer world news over specialty news.
SW-User
@Theosis: no one asked you to give up on world news lol .. i'm pointing it out because u said u dont get islamic tv
twistedrope · 26-30, M
If I may, go do something else more interesting. Bitterly studying news is a poison and rotter of the mind and the intellect. You can be better then your actions.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
@Faerylight: Just this conversation. Little girls being blown up isn't in my power to control. And criticizing it hardly amounts to anything more then bitterness. Righteousness is hardly ever born through criticism of anything other then yourself.
Allelse · 36-40, M
@twistedrope: You think anyone will ever love you more than you do?
twistedrope · 26-30, M
@Allelse: Unfortunately yes. But love without understanding is hollow.

Because they're speaking for it
The same reason christians don't speak out against terrorism by christians.
Theosis · 56-60, M
@MsAnnThropy: can you tell me a recent act of Christian terrorism?
