2 Corinthians 3:6

This to me says the bible is not to be taken literally by word but it's the Spirit behind the words that we need to be looking at

If we can't trust the Bible and what it says then we can't trust anything. It is not contradictory. God meant for us to take the Bible and all its contents seriously. We just can't pick and choose which we'lll believe.

@LadyGrace Like it or not, it's true. It's not my fault that you blindly accept the "Word" of what is nothing more than an edited book written by hundreds of different people, each with their own agenda.
@SW-User you don't know what you're talking about. I'll leave it at that.

@LadyGrace You most CERTAINLY don't 🤭 Poor deluded idiot that you are!

John 1
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

26 “I baptize with[e] water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
In context, 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 compares a life lived under the LAW, with a life lived under GRACE. Paul knew the Corinthians had begun to lose their Gospel influence when they began embracing the false message of the Judaizers. The Law, even though divinely given, could not transform a person. No standard can change a heart.
Does that mean all the stories are metaphorical?
Sounds like it's basically admitting that there's probably no god.

@BohemianBoo

In the last generation Jesus told us there would be deception who he is. Jesus is God in the flesh who loves us and died for us so we can live in heaven with him.

@BohemianBoo The Buddhist version is ""Don't mistake the finger that points for the moon itself".
I thought the letter meant the law, and that people were putting so much trust in it as if following that was what would save them.

@Colonelmustardseed even so it seems they missed the spirit of the law
@Axeroberts True. Good ol’ Paul setting things straight. 😁
@Colonelmustardseed you're exactly right. It doesn't mean that we can't trust everything the Bible says. You hit the nail on the head! That's wisdom.
As I see it, this is to do with the "law" to be written on human hearts rather than on tablets of stone.

Again, with the words "they search the scriptures daily for in them they THINK they have life"

Unfortunately, fundamentalist Christians in effect turn the letters of the New Testament into more "tablets of stone" and still insist that certain verses represent the "truth" and the "life", quoting them to exclude other human beings of other paths from God's grace. Therefore, blind leaders of the blind. The new Pharisees.

@pipedreams yes and just because a person follows this written word exactly doesn't mean they have it in their heart
@Axeroberts And maybe worse, put their trust in their allegiance to the written word rather than in Grace.
