This to me says the bible is not to be taken literally by word but it's the Spirit behind the words that we need to be looking at

I thought the letter meant the law, and that people were putting so much trust in it as if following that was what would save them.

@Colonelmustardseed you're exactly right. It doesn't mean that we can't trust everything the Bible says. You hit the nail on the head! That's wisdom.
