This to me says the bible is not to be taken literally by word but it's the Spirit behind the words that we need to be looking at

If we can't trust the Bible and what it says then we can't trust anything. It is not contradictory. God meant for us to take the Bible and all its contents seriously. We just can't pick and choose which we'lll believe.
@LadyGrace I do think it’s true that everything isn’t literal, though. The Holy Spirit will help us understand meaning behind certain things written in the Bible.
For example, the strangeness prophets like Isaiah talk about. I need study Bibles for that one because I don’t get what he means. There are things he described that are definitely not literal.
@Colonelmustardseed There's a big difference between trusting everything the Bible says and taking things out of context. Naturally, if we see a poem or a parable for example, or a metaphor, we know those aren't taken literally. There's a difference difference between those and the verses we can live by. What I'm trying to say is that God meant for us to take His Word seriously and to believe and trust everything in it. The scriptures say that God's word is God-breathed by the Holy Spirit. That means what God said in His Word are the truths he wants us to live by, and they can all be trusted. We just can't pick and choose which verses we will believe, in other words, because if we can't believe the whole of God's Word, we can't believe any of it.
@Axeroberts
yes and just because a person follows this written word exactly doesn't mean they have it in their heart

Well that's odd. I don't know who would follow God's Word exactly, if it wasn't in their heart. That makes no sense at all. That's not really what people do. Now you might have someone that claims to be a follower of Christ, but for some reason might fake it, and in that case, they certainly will not devote their life to Christ. They will only be able to put up that facade for a short time, and then they'll go right back to their old life.

@LadyGrace anything can happen Lady Grace
@Axeroberts
That still doesn't mean God's Word can't be trusted. If we can't trust the whole of God's Word and Himself to be truth and trustworthy, then we have nothing.

@LadyGrace more accurately you have nothing. Many people have God without the bible
@Axeroberts You can't have Jesus without accepting His Word, plain and simple. If you think you can, you're sadly mistaken.

@LadyGrace i have God the Creator
@Axeroberts but you don't accept his word because you have said you don't believe it all, before, and that's the difference.

@LadyGrace The Bible is riddled with contradictions. To assume otherwise is to delude yourself.
@SW-User Baloney. If there's any error it's on the part of man trying to falsely interpret, change, and contradict God's Word.

@LadyGrace Like it or not, it's true. It's not my fault that you blindly accept the "Word" of what is nothing more than an edited book written by hundreds of different people, each with their own agenda.
@SW-User you don't know what you're talking about. I'll leave it at that.

@LadyGrace You most CERTAINLY don't 🤭 Poor deluded idiot that you are!
