This to me says the bible is not to be taken literally by word but it's the Spirit behind the words that we need to be looking at

As I see it, this is to do with the "law" to be written on human hearts rather than on tablets of stone.

Again, with the words "they search the scriptures daily for in them they THINK they have life"

Unfortunately, fundamentalist Christians in effect turn the letters of the New Testament into more "tablets of stone" and still insist that certain verses represent the "truth" and the "life", quoting them to exclude other human beings of other paths from God's grace. Therefore, blind leaders of the blind. The new Pharisees.

@pipedreams yes and just because a person follows this written word exactly doesn't mean they have it in their heart
@Axeroberts And maybe worse, put their trust in their allegiance to the written word rather than in Grace.
