Americans if you gave half the money you spent in starbucks....

...on worthwhile charities, how much better would the world be?

I don’t spend money at Starbucks. And a great deal of charities are scams. Gotta check them out and see how much goes to overhead and how much goes to the charity they are using to solicit funds.

@Stereoguy there are huge needs when devastating tornadoes hit this area. We had one that was supposed to hit my city and it lifted up and went past the lake and touched down in a rural area and wiped out a lot of homes causing huge damages. Those people were not wealthy either. Then the next day we had one that hit Bridge Creek area and then Moore, the one that also got 2 elementary schools. It was a record-breaker from what they said. Horrible amount of damages. So much on TV about the second tornado that they forgot about the first one that happened the day before. They got donations from all over the U.S But Those people from the first tornado were begging for donations of water, food, clothes, tarps & emergency stuff. One of the city offices put out a call for donations and sent two truckloads. I didn’t mind bringing them a load of stuff to give the people. Most were living in tents and sheds trying to salvage and rebuild. A motorcycle group set a up large tent kitchen and cooked 3 meals a day for several months for the people in the area.

Those of us who give to charities ALREADY give. But...I do hate Starbucks...and I hate how expensive it is to drink coffee, period. That's why I don't.
I’ll concern myself with that when as the rest of the world donates their pub money.

Probably not any better because the world is still for the rich
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NickiHijab too many charity donations get skimmed off the top leaving crumbs for those they are using to get that money.
It wouldn't be any better as most charities just pocket the money.
Are Americans the only people who does such purchases ?

Also why only Americans have to make the world a better place ?

I'm just curious.

@NotSureAboutMyUserName
Not @ all
Because we can and if we didn't the world world be harsher
@NotSureAboutMyUserName Americans love their coffee maybe a little too much.
I don't spend anything at Starbucks but I do give regularly to my favorite charities. More than I would ever spend per month at a coffee shop.

let's pick a nebulas goal like: end hunger. according to oxfam : ~300 billion USD is needed to end world hunger. Starbucks 6,000+ stores generated topline revenue of ~27 billion USD in 2022. baring world war, another pandemic or other macro economic calamities; and assuming Starbucks retain market and demonstrate stable income: 9 years to end hunger through Starbucks purchases
