Serious Question: Do Fundamentalist Christians actually believe that stars will "fall from the sky" during the second coming

Let's be real, it's a metaphor. Or could be meteors. If the Sun, nevermind all the stars in the sky (Blue Giants Neutron Stars, Red Dwarves etc), "fell from the Sky" it would be the end of the universe and we'd all be obliterated before getting to Heaven 馃ぃ
PfuzylogicM
Are you serious about learning of salvation or are you trying to mock the Christian Faith?
Diotrephes70-79, M
@ShadowWolf What makes it bad is that ideas like stars falling to the Earth are attributed to the "son of God." That is because the writers were ignorant about scientific reality. They thought that stars were tiny points of light that were the same as meteorites. Anything expressed in the Bible outside of human nature is and one or two other things is the ramblings of ignorant ancient people and shouldn't be taken seriously.

@Diotrephes
You don鈥檛 mind be insulting.
SemmelweisReflex51-55, M
@Diotrephes Actually they knew more about stars than you do. They could find their way through the desert without GPS. People who say things like that about the writers of the Bible are the ignorant ones.
MarmeeMarchM
Since the earth is flat it will be able to catch them so they don't fall on the bottom of the universe.
MarmeeMarchM
@ShadowWolf What do you think - lets see I already said that Buzz Aldrin saw the flag tip over ON THE MOON -
ShadowWolf31-35, M
@MarmeeMarch So we are on the same page then. That the moon landing actually happened. Good. Have a wonderful day.
MarmeeMarchM
@ShadowWolf Where did you think that I doubted it ?
Adstar56-60, M
Meteorites are called what in our modern western society???

[big]FALLING STARS[/big]

Why do you even bring up this stupid topic? I have been a constant member on Christian forums for over 20 years and i am yet to find ANY Christians on them that believe that actual stars will be falling from the sky..

Stop making issues when there is no issue to start with..
SpiritualManM
@Adstar People saw Jesus in the clouds on a white horse with heavenly armies from 66 to 70 AD.

Now I do believe that Gog/Magog is future, the Final Judgment is future, and the 1000 years are future or at least the ideal conditions we think of for that period are future and maybe coming soon.

@SpiritualMan
@Adstar People saw Jesus in the clouds on a white horse with heavenly armies from 66 to 70 AD.
You [c=7700B2]Choose[/c] to believe people saw jesus in the clouds on a white hourse with heavenly armies from 66 to 70 AD..

I choose to make my foundation the actual prophecies in the Bible on the matter..

Like 1/3rd of all the plants /grass /trees in the world where not burnt up on earth during 70'ad.. 1/3rd of the sea's of the world did not become as blood in 70AD and people did not die in great numbers because they where forced to drink waters contaminated by the Wormwood impact in 70AD.. So many thing have to be forced into symbolism when you believe in a 70AD fulfillment of the prophecies in the book of Revelation..
SpiritualManM
@Adstar In Greek earth means the land, not the globe, and this is part of the historical record, recorded by Josephus. Background history can be the background context to help us better interpret the bible more accurately.
SemmelweisReflex51-55, M
The stars, in this case, represents Satan and his angels. Stars are used symbolically throughout scripture often for important figures. Joseph's brothers, for example. (Genesis 37:9-10)
SpiritualManM
@SemmelweisReflex Oh ya good point, thanks, that all the more makes the point. I understand the questions about meteorites or comets until you understand that angel = star metaphor in the bible, once you understand that it all makes sense.

@SpiritualMan
Oh ya good point, thanks, that all the more makes the point. I understand the questions about meteorites or comets until you understand that angel = star metaphor in the bible, once you understand that it all makes sense.
It's difficult to tell - is that sarcasm? They can be metaphors in the Bible for people, for angels, etc. Critics of the Bible often look at the celestial phenomenon in the book of Revelation, for example, as being the product of superstitious fear and ignorance. But if they knew the Bible they would easily discern that the same exact language was used in Hebrew prophecy. A metaphoric application for political and social upheaval. Jerusalem was destroyed, what followed was a new kingdom, new people, new environment. So the celestial phenomenon in Revelation is just on a global scale. All governments destroyed, all evil people destroyed, new heavens and earth. New kingdom (God's), new people, (the meek shall inherit the earth), new environment. No sin, Satan, wicked, death, disease etc.
SpiritualManM
@SemmelweisReflex It is not sarcasm at all. I understand why some people might interpret the falling stars as meteors or comets, Christians have in fact taken it that way and taught that. I was saying that once people figure out that the bible sometimes calls angels stars, then angels is the best interpretation of falling stars.

Oh by the way, in Revelation the New Heaven and New Earth are at the END of the 1000 year reign, WAY after the Tribulation, at least in terms of eternity and the Final Judgment.

Metaphors are not allowed.
SpiritualManM
@BlueSkyKing

Angels were made in the image of God. Many things in the bible ARE literally true, but they ALSO convey higher level spiritual truths, but spiritual TRUTHS, NOT spiritual MYTHOLOGY....

Space travel may be considered a metaphor, but we have it for real now, and it will expand as our tech improves.

We don't jump through hoops to get eternal life, we get it by faith in Christ. Yes I believe one could lose salvation by using their free will to abandon Christ after salvation, but at the base level salvation is by grace through faith in Christ.
BlueSkyKingM
@SpiritualMan Space travel in fiction is metaphor. The Bible is fiction thus metaphor.
Angels were made in the image of God. Many things in the bible ARE literally true, but they ALSO convey higher level spiritual truths, but spiritual TRUTHS, NOT spiritual MYTHOLOGY....
Truth can be tested. Truth demands to be tested. Compile a list of validated literally truths.
SpiritualManM
@BlueSkyKing God uses metaphors to talk about higher level spiritual TRUTH, not fiction. Some things in the bible are history.
SpiritualManM
I don't know and I don't care. I believe in this case the "stars" are metaphorical, they are talking about powers and principalities, fallen angels being kicked out of their dominion over nations, high ranking ones. The bible does sometimes refer to angels as stars metaphorically speaking.
SpiritualManM
@Diotrephes There are varied classes
Angel means messenger in Greek. What they are classes of divine beings. Angelnis a job description.
Diotrephes70-79, M
@SpiritualMan In reality, the ancient emperors' diplomats were called angels in some cultures. The name stuck because the emperors were considered Gods. That is why some of the God figures in the Old Testament are nuttier than fruit cakes. The God figure was just a lunatic human.
SpiritualManM
@Diotrephes No because ang could refer to a human messenger or a divine being. It does t have to be one or the other.
Adrift56-60, F
Depends on what they have been putting in that Jesus juice. I guess.
Diotrephes70-79, M
SemmelweisReflex, Are you saying that you, yourself, can't tell directions at night by looking at the moon?
SemmelweisReflex51-55, M
@Diotrephes
Are you saying that you, yourself, can't tell directions at night by looking at the moon?
Well, no. Not as such. I can't tell where my car is in the parking lot, with or without the moon or GPS. Horrible sense of directions. I'm saying that the primitive people weren't as superstitious and ignorant as some imagine, or project upon them.
Diotrephes70-79, M
@SemmelweisReflex Well, Moses and his crowd weren't the smartest gang since they were lost for 40 years.
hippyjoe195561-69, M
Well believe it or not the end of the world as we know it is exactly what this is all about. The God who created it is the same God who can destroy it. Seems to make sense.
