If psychics are real, why has there never been even one single case of a person demonstrating these powers under controlled conditions? [Spirituality & Religion]

I don't know if I believe in psychics or not but I don't want to discount them. If there were psychics, it's likely they'd be wrong sometimes and it's likely to be a small percentage of the population despite the many that think they can. There's so many emotions that cloud our intuition and if you haven't worked on yourself, that intuition will be clouded. It's far more likely why psychics don't seem real, we all have intuition that can sometimes save our lives but it's not free if you're clouded or in that dark place.

So I don't know if I believe in psychics per se, but I believe that some are certainly more intuitive than others because they've worked on themselves so it's not like I want to discount them entirely. I do believe strange things happen sometimes, it's okay if I don't have all the answers.

I don't believe however that just because one says they're psychic means they are, I do believe they think that though. However, I'm working on having an open mind.

However, I've never told anyone this because it's a really long conversation.

But when I lived in a bigger city I lived with this woman and it was in a bad neighborhood so you could say the feeling was just from being in a bad neighborhood as the logical route. It's a long story but went to a bad college that didn't pan out in the end, graduated, wanted a second degree but ended up getting kicked out when a guy hit me in the face. I was sticking up for another kid and this guy was on drugs (admitted he did later and that's why he came at me.)

I met this woman briefly who wasn't part of my school but met her when I was walking about. Decided to go live with her because I was stubborn and didn't want to go back, even not knowing anything about her. She seemed okay-ish but four years later it ended up to be a BIG mistake. I wanted to make it on my own which I learned that sometimes asking for help isn't a bad thing.

However there's some things I can't explain, I'm skipping a bigger part but when I first met this girl I went to live with later on in life, I met her in an apartment. I remember thinking that it wasn't like I was suspicious of her but I remember thinking that the apartment itself was off.

I also remember thinking that I was losing my mind, how can an apartment seem suspicious 😂

I mean, she had a son, there was a TV, a kitchen.. so why the feeling?

I didn't trust myself and I should have. For FOUR straight years I just had a feeling about that apartment, she actually moved and I moved with her, it was only in that apartment where I met her. But I remember the feeling stayed with me for a vast amount of time, I actually thought I was nuts.

Flash forward four years later, the dumb bitch kicks me out because a fortune teller told her that I wanted her boyfriend. I didn't, she was borderline and dealing with some issues and really obsessive.

Now, right before I was kicked out, I didn't know I was going to get kicked out at the time. I was in a gang neighborhood and I remember wanting a cigarette (I don't smoke anymore) so I asked for one. He was a gang member but you know, addictions are addictions and I wanted that cigarette.

So we were talking and if you've never met gang members, they'll sell you on some stuff, constantly hustling. Really good with words but empty ones. And he was sitting there because he was friends with the girl I was living with and he goes "hey if you're looking for some money, we have a rich guy that will literally buy you an apartment and all you have to do is sex work."

Well he didn't put it as sex work, it was more manipulative than that but I got the gist.

Playing along because I wanted the cigarette, I just nodded my head and said "maybe." Knowing full well I'd forget this conversation even happened later, but that was the wrong way of handling the situation.

At any rate, I go "which apartment?"

And he pointed at the apartment that I had met the girl I would come to live with. I just literally went white in the face, I didn't say anything but right then I realized the way I had met her was a trap.

I never did fall for the "trap" because I had this weird feeling but when I was outside a bar one time, a prostitute on the streets approached me because she saw me hanging with this girl that I was living with. It was kind of winding down, our friendship was, this was all a few weeks before I had gotten kicked out of her house. But the prostitute says "please don't tell Veronica this" and I interrupted her and said "no her name is _______" and the prostitute looks at me blankly and says "no her real name is actually Veronica but you seem sweet and I want to tell you that she's a game player. She basically ropes young women into the sex industry and if you don't do as she says, she'll find a way to kick you out."

The funny thing is that I had kept this to myself at the time because I did believe it but was kind of stubborn and part of me didn't want to. But I did actually end up getting kicked out.

The moral to this story was that, why from the first moment I walked into that apartment, I just had this feeling. Like for four years I had this nagging feeling about the apartment I had walked into, even though nothing was out of place.

I do believe that there's psychics out there for this reason.
@SatanBurger

Thanks for sharing your story.I'm glad you got out of that situation ok.
I do believe that some people are more intuitive than others. I just think that the intuition is based on subconscious cues you're picking up from your normal senses and body language, micro expressions and so on.
It seems to me that if anyone actually possessed a supernatural ability then someone, somewhere would have actually been able to prove it.

After all, people also have what seem to be genuine experiences where they feel that Jesus has guided them or that they've been cursed.

That's why i bring it back to controlled situations where such things can be tested.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Pikachu Well the issue of testing such things is that I feel like repressed emotions can hinder anything else. I'm not sure how studies would help then, this is just an opinion though. I could be wrong.

Yeah I thought about micro-expressions, I get that.

But I do remember thinking something specific about the apartment. I actually referred to my ex best friend in my school at the time just to ask if I wasn't losing my mind. For some reason the back of my mind screamed sex trafficking. But I actually thought I was losing it and deemed it paranoid.

It was only four years later that I learned it actually was lmao.

Funny how these psychics never win the lottery isn't it? Or faith healers don't work in hospitals.
@Entwistle Rather telling, isn't it?
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Pikachu Indeed. In fact I'm going to predict none of them will ever win the $100,00000 lotto jackpot
@Entwistle

Seems unlikely at this point
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
ha i knew you would say that. called it. okay randy gimme my Million Dollars :D

jk its just because everyone assumes its magic. don't trust the ones that claim it is as there either delusional, crazy, or a con artist. the good psychics are the ones that mix a bit of helpful psychology and showmanship to help you be more introspective and offer advice.

nobody can demonstrate magic. but psychology and a flair for the dramatic wont get you the James Randy foundation prize.
@NeloAngelo

In the best case senarios, i'd agree that a good psychic can offer some sound wisdom and psychological insight.
It becomes a problem when people pretend it's a supernatural gift and their clients/victims change their lives based on superficial armchair psychology or worse.

I actually met someone who predicted all kinds of things for me. I know it might be just chance but still. She was scary accurate
@SW-User

lol James Randi. Yeah some of those videos are pretty hilarious. But i feel that in those videos the people being tested often didn't really believe they had powers, they were just trying to win the prize.

I'm more interested in cases where the person genuinely believes they have this power. Although those are more heartbreaking.
SW-User
@Pikachu there was this reporter who interviewed a lady with psychic abilities. She got paid handsomely for searching for missing kids. So the reporter showed her a picture of herself as a kid. The psychic failed miserably and walked out
@SW-User

lol. womp womp.
How do you control intuition? Like what would the experiment consist of?
@DecafD

The experiments (and there have been many) are done by both the psychic and the experimenters agreeing on the parameters. So the testers make sure that cheating is impossible and that chance is unlikely and the psychics agree that their power should work under the conditions.

None have ever shown any prediction beyond chance.
@Pikachu very interesting! Do you know what parameters they’ve used before like is it a set of unloaded questions with a very specific set of answers that cannot be researched?
@DecafD

It tends to be specific to the person and how they believe their power works.
There's a few groups that offer large cash rewards to anyone who can demonstrate their power. So far no winners.

I've listened to a few of them before but sadly i cannot remember specifics for you now.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Your guess is as good as mine.
@GodSpeed63

Well my guess is that they can't demonstrate this power because no one actually has it.
