Great question. I hope you get the answers you are looking for. I believe in God and Jesus Christ. Think the Bible is inspired. Don’t follow every word for two reasons. 1. Because I’m human and I fail; 2. More often their are parts that I don’t understand or that don’t make sense to me when I read them. Sometimes I get it and others I don’t.

The danger comes when people read and “follow” by using the words as their own weapon and forcing it down others throats. It’s fine on it’s own.

Budwick · 70-79, M
Yes, I do read the Bible.
Yes, I am a follower of Christ.
No, I do not follow every word of the Bible.
Yes, I am grateful for the forgiveness offered by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He and His Father - knew we couldn't possibly follow every word of the Bible, so Jesus paid for all our sins. That's the whole significance of today - Easter!
@Budwick And here you are being impatient.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@wilderflower I asked you a half hour ago to get to the point!
@Budwick You’re welcome to stay on this thread all day if you want or come back. It’ll be here tomorrow. You’re old enough to make up your mind. Nobody’s telling you what to do.
If you think you answered my question what are you doing?
Adstar · 56-60, M
I believe every word in the Bible is the inspired Word of God..

Do i successfully do all that is given to me to do in the Bible .. NO..

That's why God provided the atonement of the LORD Jesus Christ.. So as to pay the price our failing to live up to the standards put forward in the Bible.. So that those who believe God and trust in god will be Deemed righteous by Faith not deemed righteous by works ( actions deeds and performance in doing the will of God)

Salvation can only ever be a gift that humans can receive from God.. it cannot be earned because it requires perfection in all things.. And any honest human being knows.. No one is perfect but God..
@Adstar ☺️
@Adstar According to the Bible, a woman who marries and is not a virgin should be taken outside the gates of the city and stoned to death. That makes a hymen worth a life.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@quitwhendone Yes quitwhendone.. those who engage in pre-marital sex and worthy to face the death penalty.. But of course we do not execute them since the time of Jesus because we follow his will not to carry out judgements upon sinners..
I feel you're asking a loaded question. Should you read every word of the bible? Yes. Should you follow every word? What do you mean by follow?
@Qwerty14

lol don't think i'm not going to repeat that excuse back to you next time you disagree with me😉
Ok. Happy Easter!
@Pikachu If I ever need you to explain religion to me it will really be the end of the world lol Happy day in April with no significance as all days are just the passage of time... Or whatever Atheists prefer lol
walabby · M
@Qwerty14 Actually it was Paul that did away with the old law. Jesus said the law should be followed to the N'th degree...
ive read some Bible and i cant say i follow every word of it - the Old Testament is kinda odd. All i know is that Jesus is cool and that i love Him
@Dewms well said
@Qwerty14 hey, happy Easter!! 🐱
ladycae · 100+, F
i have read every word some many times over. except not right now. God and I are having an argument. but like usual his holy spirit will mold me to get my heart straight. He always wins.

do I follow every word? to the best of my ability. through study, I have learned that the Jewish law had a lot to do with the health and welfare of the Jewish people that modern science has overcome. some laws are culturally based and don't need to be followed today.

Jesus came to fulfill the law. which changed a great deal. when asked what the greatest most important law was Christ answered to love the lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul and secondly to love your neighbor as you love yourself. i think that following those pretty much takes care of everything else. but I am a sinner, far, far from perfect. thankfully he died and rose to forgive and wipe my soul clean.
@ladycae Thank you for your honest answer.
ladycae · 100+, F
@wilderflower your welcome. thanks for the question it helped me work some things out.
@ladycae That’s great!
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
@hippyjoe1955 Sorry you’re bored but you’re responsible for not being boring. Work on that today.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@wilderflower He DID answer!
You didn't like the answer.
But, he answered.
@Budwick Hey welcome back. @hippyjoe1955 gave an answer in order to avoid directly answering the question as asked. But I just remembered he already answered it on another thread.
TexChik · F
Because of my ptsd I have an issue sometimes with forgiveness ...there are a few that I just cant. I pray for strength and guidance and I try … I just keep hoping I will just be able to do it and move on. I have received so many blessings in my life that I really need to get that done. So no , sadly, I don't follow every word but I do try.

I’m not a Christian, but I was raised to be one where I was fostered. I have read the Bible and I read it to extract philosophies and discipline that made sense and a lot of it didn’t. I don’t live by the words in it, and I don’t preach it. I’m more influenced by Buddhism because it’s a philosophy and not a religion.Also, It was never shoved down my throat.
@SW-User smart man
Sunnykel76 · 46-50, F
I do not read my bible as I should, and there are times I have tried to ignore what it says because I wanted to fulfill my own will and desires. I working everyday to change that and to be worthy to call myself a Christian. I thankful for his grace and mercy and forgiveness.
The bible is the definitive word of God
@questionWeaver Do you feel you answered my question?
@wilderflower sure I do
@questionWeaver Thank you
PowerofStories · 61-69, M
It's close to impossible for any person, Christian or not, to do it. And I am not just talking about issues of well-accepted morality. The Biblical commandments include:

Do not sow a field of yours with two different kinds of seed; and do not put on a garment woven with two different kinds of thread (Lev. 19:19).

You shall not wear cloth made from wool and linen woven together (Deut. 22:11).

There are others that are just as tough to follow.
PowerofStories · 61-69, M
@ladycae Hi and thanks for the thoughtful reply. I was reading the original question asked literally as to whether anyone can follow every word of the Bible.
ladycae · 100+, F
@PowerofStories luckily we don't have to. the laws are interesting to study. some have health benefits especially the dietary ones and the ones about purification. others make no sense at all and others are horrific. luckily we need not follow them.
walabby · M
@ladycae ... so the 10 Commandments, being Old Testament laws, are superseded?
Degbeme · 70-79, M
In a word. No! I don`t need a book to tell me what is right or wrong.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@fairefoutre I know where I live. Don`t need you preaching to me.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@Degbeme THIS Deg!! 👍👍👍
Degbeme · 70-79, M
okaybut · 56-60, M
Religion is a mythical manifestation of core human psychological values. With this in mind, many of the stories of the bible are valuable learning stories.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
No.
Belief in and understanding of God is not limited to the Bible. You must also read the works of the Buddha, the Koran, the Dali Lama, Spong, Marcus Borge, Bart Ehrman, Ekhart Tolle, the Phillmores, and many many others. And most importantly you must live. Do not be afraid to engage new cultures and create friendships with those who you have been informed are untouchable.

Keep an open mind.

In the end perhaps you will discover as I have that we are all part of God. We are his dreams made manifest.

Then you may write your own book.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is this your final attempt to get answer from Godspeed?
@JBird Never gonna happen 🤣
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@JBird @wilderflower
Never gonna happen

It's clear that you haven't answered my question on this thread.
follow the 10 commandments
@saragoodtimes Is that all the Bible should have in it?
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
I find it highly unlikely that anyone can follow every word of the Bible.
I believe if we treat others the way we wish to be treated, love God and love each other we do well.
@JoePourMan Thanks. Why do you think it’s unlikely anyone can follow every word?
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
@wilderflower because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
@JoePourMan How does that relate to reading and following every word of the Bible?

@fairefoutre Of course they do. The bottom line is do what the almighty commands or burn in Hell for eternity.
You can't deny that? If that's not control, what is? 🤷‍♀️

No, I only look up to Jesus. He's my homie.
@jjoe01 Have you ever read the Bible?
@wilderflower many times over.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 They are all here looking for sex!
@ExperienceDLT That’s one long member
@wilderflower yep lol
Canicu69 · 70-79, M
@Keepitsimple what’s wrong with looking for sex. Sex is important in my life, not sure about yours. If sex isn’t a part of your daily routine, you need to buy a new vibrator
I was raised Roman Catholic but I got over it by the time I became a teenager. So here is my answer:

No. I prefer Greek mythology to Christian mythology. The stories are much better.
@quitwhendone 👍️
Why would GOD give man, made in his own image, free will knowing that it would cause the End of days and the Apocalypse ?

Read yes. Follow no. This flowchart can help explain why all religions are false.

i've read it, studied it ..
follow it all? no ..

To me, a lot of it was altered.

The whole premise for Christianity is everyone is sinful, so following from that no one can follow every word. I have not read it all

Yes, I read the Bible; but, because I am a broken, fallible believer, I fail at living true to God’s word.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
After all, the Law brings death, but the Spirit brings life. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@fairefoutre May Grace abound that all may be saved. Not of our own lest we boast.

Hikingguy · 56-60, M
I don’t think any of us can. I wouldn’t want to take a lot of what the Bible says, especially the Old Testament, literally. I look at the Bible as a guide book on how we are to live our lives and how to attempt to act towards each other.
I think he doesn't answer because he knows it's a trap. If he says no to following every word then one can claim he isn't Christian.
If on the other hand he says yes then he is admitting to believing that atrocities like slavery, genocide and infanticide are okay.
@canusernamebemyusername I think you’re right.
redredred · M
I can never get an answer for this specific question. The bibke discusses witches and sorcery. Do bible-believing Christians really believe real witches (not those wicca wannabes) perform real sorcery? The bible says so.
@redredred

Bats arent birds as leviticus indicates

True, but you have to remember that at that time animals were classified by what they did and not by any legitimate phylogeny.

Bats are birds because they fly.
Whales a fish because they swim.
redredred · M
@Pikachu Thank you for making my point but I dont need the help. Using those incorrect terms indicates that the bible was written by ignorant humans, not as a divinely inspired inerrant book.

One cannot claim the bible is inerrant and then plead allegorical or colloquial speech when caught in an error. Its either absolutely inerrant divine truth or its just a pile of error-ridden, ignorant folk tales. Ive pointed out the obvious errors so, its the latter.

You have an inconsistent hypothesis. It assumes that "every word of the Bible" is some command or directive which CAN be followed, but this is not the case.

This is perhaps most clear in the Gospels' accounts of Jesus' sayings, teachings, etc.

I have read the Bible, but I look at Scripture, proper (OT writings), through the lense of Jesus...since I am a Christian.
Jesus' basic message is simple and does not require the backflips implied by your question.

It can’t be done, that’s why the crutch of faith comes in so handy.
If we feel beautiful on the inside then it will show on the outside.

My disobedient children are very thankful that I don't follow everything in the Bible..
I have read some of it but I don't follow every word. I do quote some things at times like "Do unto others..."
@softspokenman The common sense stuff.
eyeno · M
I do my best.
Your question is answered and it's not up for debate nor scrutiny. Thank-you and God bless
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Depends on what you mean by every word in the Bible. Do you follow every word in the Bible?
No. God Himself, ended several of the covenants, he made because, they were outdated.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
It is impossible to do. Not sure why you would want to try
I've read the bible but I don't follow it.
