Jesus told us to tithe with widows , the poor , the homeless and the sick
A tithe is a 10th, But think on Jesus is worth much more than a 10th so give what you can :)

@SW-User I also give directly. Our local Mission and Food Pantry both give directly to poor people to provide badly needed food, clothing a warm bed to sleep when it's cold and let's not forget Hope. When I buy from Amazon Smile a portion of the amount is donated directly to our local Mission and Food Pantry as well.

@SW-User I appreciate that. One can still give to the needy without feeling the urge to profess one's virtue of how holy one is.

God loves a joyful giver.. This is stated in the Holy Bible..
But if a person ""gives"" because they have the expectation of receiving a ""Blessing"" equal to or probably better then what they have""given"" then in truth they have not truly given anything at all.. They have simply invested an amount to secure for themselves a return.. That's not giving..
True giving is when you give and have absolutely no expectation of desire for a return.. That's when a person has really given..
Giving has never been a transactional matter..

@saintsong I agree it is important to be encouraging in these times of crisis! That is the purpose of my post
When so many are unemployed! God has helped me with finances when I lost jobs! Because we can count on God to help us and I am now doing great I want to encourage others to tithe when they lost their job! His comments are very upsetting and discouraging! I will delete comments and block people who are critical and discouraging going forward!

I believe that God rewards people for doing good things, and the reward will be in the next life if not in this one. Giving money to good causes, including churches, is one of many ways to do good.
shuhak · M
No I do not. That's what's known as the "prosperity gospel".
Be careful not to take things out of context. In Malachi, God is telling His people (Israel) much more than just tithing. God is angry at His people. They were mocking God by giving Him a false pretense of worship (lip service). They offered God lame animals as sacrifices while keeping the best for themselves, worshiped idols, divorced their wives just because they wanted to, withheld tithes because they wanted the money... And then they had the gall to wonder why He wouldn't accept their worship. They were so bad that one couldn't distinguish them from the wicked.
Malachi should be a wakeup call to us today, as many people who claim they belong to God are doing the exact same thing. They're all "churchy-church" on Sunday, but the rest of the week they cheat, lie, and mistreat others. They claim to follow God, but their hearts are set on money and pleasure (greed, selfishness). They abuse their wives and children (physically and/or mentally). And then they wonder why God's not blessing them or hearing their prayers. God was not pleased with that then, and He is not pleased with it now.
"So now we call the arrogant blessed; not only are the doers of wickedness built up but they also test God and escape." - Malachi 3:15

@HorrorshowHijabi in John 1:1 and in Colossians 1 and in isaha God says that Gods Son is the mighty creator , Jehovah, the savior of the world, God himself came down to save the sinful world and when people asked him if he can forgive sins he said what’s easier to say your sins are forgives or take up your bed a walk to the crippled? Then he said take up your bed to a cribbled and the crippled walked off with his bed! He alone can forgive sin!
shuhak · M
@Carazaa I wholeheartedly agree that God wants us to give Him our best (best); after all, He gave His best to us (Jesus). In fact, God wants than just our best, He wants our all - "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind".
Jesus said to get rid of ANYTHING that would come between us and Him. God doesn't want our divided loyalty (..."love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind"). We don't simply get rid of something just because we want a blessing. That'd be like telling God - I did such-and-such for You, so now You have to do such-and-such for me. No, we do it because we love God. He has promised to give us what we need (not what we want or think we want) - "Seek first the kingdom of Gods and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." - Matthew 6:33

Most religions use fear and greed to gain adherents. This is just one of the "greed" attractions... "Mansions in Heaven" would be another?
DudeistPriest · M
@Carazaa No. He's not.
Besides, Matt. 7 1-2: "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

@walabby Jesus said there would be wars and rumors of wars before he would come back and false “christs” and famines, and plagues, and iniquity abounding, and going to and fro, increased knowledge, and increased earthquakes, and mocking God, and the gospel flying to every country with the news of Jesus so obviously he was not talking about then! He was talking about now!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
If the churches would use that money to help the poor instead of giving fat salaries it would,.
Carazaa · F
@cherokeepatti God says that nothing will hinder his truth marching on! And His truth is flying around the globe to every country!

What if all churches did that?
More poor people would get helped.
Particularly from the Vatican$ Bank.

As long as the Church does not receive police and fire protection because they don’t pay taxes for that.
HorrorshowHijabi · F
@MrBrownstone Most homeless shelters, food kitchens and food banks don't pay taxes for that either tho. So that's a sticky place to be in.
exexec · 61-69, C
No, and whenever our church tries to use that line of reasoning, I object.

Why doesn't your deity just create some more gold if it's hard up for lucre?
SW-User
Sadly most of the money given doesn’t even go to good.
It goes to the pockets of child molesters.
As one of the children I keep far from them.

And why would someone want to challenge Allah as if He is to BE challenged?

Do you also stone to death those who break the Sabbath?
Entwistle · 56-60, M
Shall I tithe him the first tenth of my daily dump? You did say "everything"!
HorrorshowHijabi · F
Malachi is old testament and meant for the jews tho. A christian generally believes that jesus pbuh erased the law of the jews so how does tithing still stand?
walabby · 61-69, M
That's Old Testament. The rules changed with Paul...

What does the creator of the universe need with money?

@SirenCalledLuce Absolutely nada.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
God sounds like a multilevel marketing scheme.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
Would you challenge god to catch you if you jumped off a cliff?
Carazaa · F
Tithing means give a tenth of the first of everything for the gospel to go out, Jesus good news!
Entwistle · 56-60, M
No. Its a con to make you give a percentage of your money away.
