Can some Christian help explain this apparent example of god immediately contradicting himself? [Spirituality & Religion]
That night God came to Balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, get up and go with them, but you must only do what I tell you.” 21So Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.
22Then God’s anger was kindled because Balaam was going along, and the angelb of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
numbers 22:20-22

It sounds like god said "ok, do this" and then was angry because Balaam did that....

I like the one when Israelites prayed to God because they were running out of food and water, so God sent venomous snakes to bite them.
@Straylight

lol well he sent snakes because they complained. Which is kind of on them considering how every time they complain he kills a bunch of them but they keep doing it.

@Pikachu Abusive relationships are like that.
@Straylight

I have to say, the relationship between god and humanity does read to me like an abusive relationship. Always has.

"I love you! You're making me hurt you! This is your fault! "

It's creepy.

@Pikachu I guess you didn't have loving parents who ever disciplined you then.
@Carazaa

Wrong on both counts, as you well know.

I know you don't like to hear that about your god, carazaa but it is my honest impression of the relationship.
I know what discipline is and i know what love is so don't condescend to me on that count.
But that's not what i see in the relationship between god and humanity. I respect that you don't share that view.

@Pikachu You expect an equal relationship between God and his people. NEWS, It is not! God is Holy, and we are sinful. It is not an equal relationship. It is equivalent to you having a box of grass hoppers. You decide that there are too many and you get rid of some to fend for themselves, as you feed maybe 5 left in your box. It is up to Gods discretion. You can complain, but it will only give you more punishment unless you repent and turn from your sins.
@Carazaa
You expect an equal relationship between God and his people.
I absolutely do not. As you say, it's not.
You can complain, but it will only give you more punishment
🤦🏻 .... and that doesn't sound like an abusive relationship to you?

I stand by what i said because with these comments you're only reinforcing that parallel.
"I love you! You're making me hurt you! This is your fault! "
That's what an abuser does.🤷🏻

@Pikachu God is more loving than you by a million snowflakes! Calling him abusive for giving life and taking life is a way to make yourself less guilty. It relieves you the responsibility for your own sins. God is Holy, we are sinners. God has no obligation towards you when you hate him. And yet he died for you to not have any consequences for anything you have done wrong. People who are born again understand sin. We have the vail lifted from our eyes, and softened hearts towards God and man. You don't understand Holy yet. I hope you will one day!
@Carazaa
Calling him abusive for giving life and taking life is a way to make yourself less guilty.
I know it upsets you to hear someone say such things about your god but i'm only being honest.
I don't say these things to make myself feel better or less guilty.
You have to keep in mind that i don't believe god is even real so when i say he sounds like the abuser in an abusive relationship i don't say that because i hate him, i say that because that is the impression i get.

"I love you! You're making me hurt you! This is your fault! "

@Pikachu The animal shelter in town kill dogs. They are not abusing them. It is not an equal relationship between dog and man. I got my dog from the pound because I hate it that they kill them after 10 days. But they have that right. I will call you an abuser from now on if I ever hear that you kill an ant, cockroach, or fly in your house. You are wrong that god is abusive!
@Carazaa

There's a world of difference between putting a dog down because they can't look after it and beating a dog for peeing on the rug.
There's a world of difference between killing a pest and telling someone you love that you're hurting them and it's their fault.

"I love you! You're making me hurt you! This is your fault! "
That's what an abuser does.

I think it's fair to say we're not going to agree on this, carazaa. So let's just let it be🙂
