@wilderflower Arguing with the hipster is painful, beating your head against a brick wall is a more productive used of time. The brick will eventually start to feel it before hipster here actually has an adult thought. :)
@Pherick 😆
@hippyjoe1955 Let's talk about this statement from you.
Better just to laugh at them and move along
If you truly live by that credo why then did you engage in a conversation with me? After I asked you the question why did you even bother to respond since you already had me as the closed minded type? Why didn't you just "move along"? You could have said "I don't think you'd appreciate a straightforward answer" And if you think asking a question is one way to maybe get them to think wouldn't it follow that asking a question is one way to get an answer? Preferably a straightforward one?

@Emosaur you are the only intelligent person in this world.

Congratulations.

You should get Noble prize for that.

When you see that there are multiple sects and denominations claiming theirs is the one true religion and everyone else is doomed, it should be a clear indication that someone is lying.

Plus being brought up Southern Baptist and having congregants tell me that the reason my dad died is because I didn't pray hard enough. I was six years old.

Seriously, how evil do you have to be to tell that to a little kid who lost a parent?
Laughman · 46-50, M
@daisymay Yeah that's messed up. They should have been a system of support at that time in your life, and not starting a blame game... disgraceful.

Had a Catholic side of the family who were so judgemental of everybody else while at the same time behaving appallingly themselves probably started my mistrust.
Then as I got older reading and watching what Catholics and Protestants were prepared to do to each other in Northern Ireland just because of their beliefs.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Picklebobble2 Yep.. people in dispute over the same religion. Judging a person based on their religious beliefs is no end of trouble. I actually used to say that people should be free to believe in what they want. However since I've seen religious beliefs start so many confrontations, I believe all religions should be banned permanently.

I stopped ignoring how much the hypocrisy I was seeing in churches bothered me. And I started asking myself if what I believed was truly from GOD, or if it was from PEOPLE and what they were telling me I should believe.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@StarLily And what did you discover?
StarLily · 51-55, F
@Laughman That for whatever reason, I hadn't been thinking for myself.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@StarLily Good point. I think if you get too sucked in you never really take time to step back and asses the entire system.
When the going gets tuff..

I had several conversations and discussions with an athiest, last one took 12 hours till I finally saw the truth and stopped believing in god but it was a few hours after that the truth actually clicked.
