How can we hold the bible up as a moral compass when it so explicitly endorses and codifies the rules for SLAVERY? [Spirituality & Religion]

Well i know we don't all do that. But christians certainly seem to.

@BlueMetalChick I don't think they have a magnet in them. They are lousey compass and probably get you lost and killed. So you're right.

@Pikachu My classmate is a Christian who reads the bible but has a very unusual take on it. He says that he believes in god and has faith but treats the bible more as an example of the sins of the past to not repeat. Which is something I'd never heard before. He also supports keeping monuments of terrible people like Adolf Hitler or Pol Pot because he says that we should be able to look at them and think "Let's never again be like they were."
