Confused about the lord.. [Spirituality & Religion]

I'm Struggling with believing and trusting in the Lord. I want so badly to believe, let him into my life. I'm not sure how to start or what to do. I'm Catholic and I've noticed that Christians have more of a pull more emotion then I've ever seen. Can anyone one help me out?

Here’s how to start. Pray and ask GOD for direction in your life, daily. He is already speaking to you by His Holy Spirit. He will lead you to the right path. Seek His wisdom and guidance. That way, you CANNOT go wrong. Read God’s Word. In Proverbs, especially, it tells you how to walk with God. Great book of Wisdom. And we know that all wisdom comes from the Lord.

Jesus said do not put your confidence in man, over God, and certainly do not lean to your own understanding, as everything you think you know, is not always accurate. Or someone else who is completely wrong about God may tell you things that are completely WRONG. If you want to make wise decisions, and make sure you’re getting the right answers, go directly to the SOURCE of all wisdom. The Bible. God’s own inerrant Word. Then you CANNOT get it wrong.

Further, if ANYONE gives you advice (as Jesus told His Disciples to tell the world about Him and His saving grace), about Jesus or how to find Him, make certain their statements match up with exactly with God’s Holy Word, 100%!! If not, then they are both liars and false teachers.

Nothing to trust?????, as one man said?? Please. That’s the worst advice you could ever get. Jesus, Himself, told us that you must have faith and trust in Him, in order to be saved. There are a lot of false teachers out there. Jesus said, “Beware!” Religion is nothing but MAN-MADE philosophy. What you want, is a personal relationship with Jesus.

I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior and I know He is TRUSTWORTHY and REAL. Please feel free to pm me and ask me anything, if you like. But please just don’t fall for anything you read in this forum. Check it against the Bible. God is not a liar, and neither is His Word. Then you may rest assured that you have it right.

@GodSpeed63 "16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17

I can be inspired by Picasso. That does not mean that a painting that I create is a Picasso.
room101 · 51-55, M
@LadyGrace "But the Word of God was written by HOLY MEN OF OLD UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT."

There was another Holy man of old who said that his words were from the direction of God and that his words were Gods Law. In fact, he said that he was God's final prophet and that there would be no more prophets after him. His name was Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdullāh and he went on to create one of the fastest growing religions in human history.

Men are fallible. End of story.

For reference,
Room101 said: Where does The Bible tell us that everything in it is the word of God?

Godspeed: Right here. "16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17

Amen brother. You are right on. I love that verse. He criticizes my beliefs, and calls me self-righteous, when he doesn’t even know me or believe in the inerrant Word of God. If you don’t believe in God’s Word, you just don’t believe God. That’s calling God a liar. He didn’t want me to use scripture, but God’s Word IS to be USED as it says...for correction and instruction in righteousness. But we’ve got things to do for the Lord, than keep this going. It’s not profitable to the Lord. It’ll just drag on and on.

To me, there are three different elements to what you are asking. If you are indeed asking anything.

First, believing in God and Jesus Christ. In this world of science and rationality and the seemingly constant ridicule by atheists and the despicable antics of so many "religious" folks, it can be really hard to simply believe.

Second, trusting the Lord. There is nothing to trust! Let me explain. Unless God or Jesus Christ or some other divine being is coming to you and asking to do x, y or z; unless God or Jesus Christ or some other divine being is coming to you and telling you to live your life like this or that, then you are not being asked to trust in anything. You have your conscience. You know right from wrong. You know how to be kind and respectful and compassionate. So really, it's only yourself that you have to trust.

Third, let Him into my life. If you believe in God and trust in yourself, in your ability to live a good life, then you've already let Him into your life.

All the rest, all of the "stuff" that religion foists on us is just that, religion!

I think that, what God wants from us is FAITH. Not RELIGION. There is a difference.

Your confused about the Lord - it's very simple - No.1 if you believe in Him , He's inside you and that's a very personal journey . He came to me after a suicide attempt and all I can explain after pulling myself up from a rope I got an inner peace which goes beyond human understanding. Today I'm still overwhelmed with it and that was 9 years ago . It's a very personal journey. He usually comes to more a lot through there suffering and when that happens Our Lord see's it . I went down the road of most religions and beliefs and Our Lord is the one I got more comfortable with .

I hate to say it but you will not find solid information here. By the time everyone has put in their two cents you will be more confused than when you started asking.

I suggest reaching out to your local churches...all Christian denominations. Ask them your honest questions. Also, if you have a friend that is strong in their faith I would encourage you to seek them out for a conversation.

Faith is such a difficult concept to live, let alone explain...my own stays on pretty shaky ground these days. I pray that you find your answers.

Read and study the Bible. All the directions are there for you. Pray and ask him for guidance and understanding and he will direct your paths. Trust in him and his word.

@Redman191145 thank you

@SweetSeptember I agree with this answer. Read the bible from cover to cover without skipping around.

Amen! That’s the ONLY true way. You’re 100% right, brother. @Redman191145

Room 101: My so-called babblings, as you put it, are accurate according to God's Word. You would know that if you were a follower of Christ, as you claim. As usual, all your accusations are unfounded. You sound exactly as other trolls on here. Just wanting to stir up trouble. I pay no mind to people like you and your accusations. God's Word does not back up what you claim. Goodbye.

You start by sitting in a beautiful quiet place, and think about God, and think about all the beautiful things in the world that He has created. And then just open up the door by quietly thanking Him for the things you find beautiful, or good. You could thank Him for puppies, or for babies, or for your health. And then start to do that more often.

I found in the past that it was soooo easy to think about God while looking at the sunset, or standing on the beach, or looking at gorgeous mountain vistas, or even looking at a tree.

When you think about all the wonderful things He has created, you begin to feel a greater love for Him. The awe and beauty of a red and purple sunset doesn't even begin to describe who and what He is.

The next step after you feel solid in love and and awe, is to follow the commandments, and ask for forgiveness for the times you have not. You will be forgiven. God loves each one of us like there is ONLY one of us. And your sins are all washed away by the blood of God's only Son, our Lord.

When your heart is pure and empty of conflict, and full of love for Him, you will become like a two way radio and you will always be able to feel the Holy Spirit who lives in your heart.

I can't comment.. but I wasn't sure if you were saying that Catholics are something other than Christians? Catholics are Christian.

I hope you find your answers.. but please remember.. religion and faith aren't for everyone.. some find a path other than religion

You didn't respond to my posts here. I'm curious, after reading everyone's response, what have you concluded??
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Jesus said, "WE must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God. Ask Him into your heart and life and seek to be filled with love. Don't give up on Him because He'll never give up on you. I'll be praying for you.

With all respect, why do you feel you MUST believe in God?

Maybe this reply will prove to be useless, but as a believer I feel it my duty to answer: Join a religious community. Maybe a Bible study group; maybe a volunteer group. Something. My perception is that Catholics (and Orthodox Christians, be it said) have fewer such groups than the Protestants. So maybe finding a nondenominational group, or even stepping outside the boundaries of Catholicism will help you. The denominations disagree on rather petty matters, anyway.
I believe emotion can be overdone in regards to Faith. Emotion will not sustain us during hard times- Faith in God will. I was raised Catholic, but rejected it as the rituals and Latin sermons and prayers made no sense to me. I don't need a "go between" to confess my sins to God. Catholics can be Christians- it's not about denomination (mans idea), but about entrusting our life to God thru Faith in what Jesus did on the cross and His resurrection.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Being a Christian isn’t gonna make you love god more or know him more than being a catholic. You have to decide if you want to be in church that often cause you like it and you like their services more. I’d say find a good pastor or priest and go from there.
SweetSeptember · 36-40, F
@Keepitsimple thank you
LadyGrace · 70-79
It’s not about how many times you hit the church doors, give tithes, do good works, or do good to others. The list is extensive.

What did Jesus have to say about these? He said we cannot get to heaven by doing good works….period! Only by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Trusting Him and what HE says is right, and you’ve got some awfully bad advice from some here. Just the opposite from how JESUS said to be saved. Please read His Word. You can trust HIM.

“For you are saved HOW?? By GRACE - UNEARNED FAVOR FROM GOD - through Faith in your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 2: verses 8 - 9. Jesus said nothing about working or earning your way to heaven, lest people could boast they saved themselves and that is not possible. It’s Jesus that does the saving and keeping of you.

Further, loving and fellowshipping with Jesus, WILL bring you closer to Jesus. That has nothing to do with where you go to church. It’s faithfulness and dedication that count. It’s a personal relationship, NOT “religion”, though others say differently. The word “Christian”, simply means one who is a follower of Christ. ANYONE can have “religion”, but do the have a personal relationship with Jesus??? Is the QUESTION. Even the Devil believes in God, yet he’s not going to heaven!

Go back through and read Matthew through Matthew 7.

It will help ground you. Trusting God begins in your heart. Meditate (don’t think) until you find it again.

Catholic? And u have noticed Christians??? What r u saying. Catholics r not Christians?. I see why ur confused. Udk ur one of them CHRISTIANS!!!! Go Study the scriptures. Then u will have a understanding. And if u really want to know. all u have to do is Talk to The Father. not the preist u call father. But The Creator Of Us All. Father of all!!!!! Ask our lord and Saviour Y'shua Adonia. I'm sure if u listen, REALLY LISTEN. he will anwser u. Then u will have a greater understanding.knowledge And awareness. Knowing is Greater than just believing!!!. Pbwu
Dont waste your time convincing others - do your own thing -go to church and block off what others say about him being real / fake etc.....
SheikYerbouti · 51-55, M
I'm Catholic as well, I've had struggles since conversion. It's normal.
Carazaa · F
I am a born again Christian. I first believed that Jesus died for humanity, then I repented, and then I promised God to put Him first my whole life. Then He saved me.

The more you do that the more He shows Himself to you! We have to come to God with a contrite heart. Then He saves us.

I would read the entire Bible too cover to cover. Find a Bible believing church and get into a prayer group.
BiblicalWarrior · 51-55, M
Christianity is a relationship, not a religion
Either you believe or you dont.. There's no try
StrictLoving · 56-60, M
find a "word church" near you.

one that really gets into the bible and what it teaches.

you will love it :-)
SweetSeptember · 36-40, F
@StrictLoving there is a church right next to the library here and it's great every one is really nice. The pastor is pretty great as well.
StrictLoving · 56-60, M
@SweetSeptember the bible says the Lord orders the steps of a good man or woman.

it also says there is a place in the Body of Christ that is pleases Him for you to be.

you just need to find out where that place is for you, since it's obviously not the Catholic church for you anymore.
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
Just try being the best person you can be every day 😊
LadyGrace · 70-79
@Justenjoyit That's not always the case. Not all are bad.

When it comes to "religion", Jesus said not to lean to our own understanding but to lean on God's word. Religion is empty , without God. Religion is described as man-made philosophy. Not all who feel they are "religious" are saved. even the devil believes there's a God, but he's not going to heaven. We cannot get to heaven by being good or doing good works. God also said try to do it your own way and it will not lead you to salvation or heaven. It's in God's word. It does say that.
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
My religion has made me a happy person within myself and I have become the real me. I belive if you belive in some ones elses religion
You can not become yourself because its not you. You are just following what some one else believes.
LadyGrace · 70-79
@Justenjoyit I understand what you're saying, and I truly am happy that you're happy with that, but I don't follow religion OR what people tell me. That's the whole idea behind the Bible. What do you do with what Jesus told us? He told us the only way to heaven is to follow Him. We are all cut off from God the Father by our sins. Please tell me how you have access with the Father, without the mediation of Jesus, so you can have your sins forgiven. Good can't hear your prayers without Jesus, our only Mediator, as Jesus told us in His Word. Why do you think Jesus died on the cross?
darktippedrose · 36-40, F
Are you debating which sect of Christianity you want to be a part of?
