Really, we need religion in order to believe in God? [Spirituality & Religion]

Who, in their right mind, would think such thing?

This is a tautology. Believing in god is religion. That's what religion is.

What makes you think religion is believing in God?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 Because that's the definition of the word. A belief in a god or multiple gods is a religious belief. That's what the word means.

So?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 What do you mean "so?" That answers your question. Belief in god is a religious belief by the definition of the word "religious."

Have you ever read James 1:27?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 How is this relevant? You asked why a person needs to be religious in order to believe in god. And I told you that a belief in god, in itself, qualifies as a religious belief. What could James 1:27 say that disputes that?
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@BlueMetalChick because he is under the delusion he is not religious by being religious. It really is a merry go round when you think about it.

That's the type of 'religion' Yahweh will accept.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 You believe in god, therefore you hold a religious belief. That's how it works.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@BlueMetalChick
You believe in God
Yes, but I don't belong to any type of man made, organized religion.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 Do you read the bible?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick that actual passage he cites offers the definition of religion as a different term. Basically straw Manning by holding an obscure definition against the modern definition. Which he should know is not how language works.

@BlueMetalChick
This is a tautology.
Surely denying christianity is a religion is an oxymoron rather than a tautology?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@suzie1960 Denying Christianity is an oxymoron, yes. But I meant that "I believe in God, is that religious?" is the tautology. Because a belief in god is by definition a religious belief.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@BlueMetalChick Thanks for clarifying, I agree.

I've just corrected my post - I had omitted the words "... is a religion ..." :(
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@suzie1960 But remember, if you believe in the one true god then it's NOT a religion, it's just "the truth."

ell oh ell
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@BlueMetalChick Amen to that!!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 You just said "amen" to me calling you a hypocritical dumb ass who uses the same tired unoriginal argument that every pseudo-religious douche bag in the world has used.

So yes, amen to that.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@BlueMetalChick Not at all. I was saying amen to what you said in your post about believing in the one true God, Yahweh, not being a religion. That's the truth and I agree with you on that. I don't recall you putting those labels on me that don't stick. My Father in Heaven's label about me does stick for good.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GodSpeed63 But it is a religion. You're religious, you have religious beliefs. THAT'S the truth, and you don't agree with me because you're trying really hard to be different. The truth is, you're a religious person in denial. If you believe in god, no matter what god that is, that in and of itself is a religious belief.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@BlueMetalChick He didn't understand your comment -
if you believe in the one true god then it's NOT a religion,
Sarcasm is wasted on fools, they don't have the ability to comprehend it.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@suzie1960 It's like trying to explain cellular respiration to a goldfish with a brain tumor.
