The church existed as a hierarchical structure of power. Before Orthodoxy, there were actually several versions of Christianity to which when the church was established as govt rather than a religious organization outlawed all of them.

Therefore the Christianity we have now are all heretics. They were not first that's for sure.

@Harriet03 Christianity was always around even before America became a nation. The United States was founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was never and will ever be political party.

@GodSpeed63 There were several Christian groups. The one that we have now is just the one that won out in the end. How is that NOT political? In order to have a dominate religion you had to do things like subjugate or other religions will take over aka politics.

@SatanBurger It's not about religion, it never has been or ever will be about religion. God hates man made organized religion because that's not what He created us for. Just because we have a Christian as President of the United State, doesn't mean that Christianity is a political party.

@MarmeeMarch Careful of thousands of years ago. Protestants still do horrible shit to Catholics in Northern Ireland. Hence why the IRA started in the first place.
