human beings are not gullible or lacking in the independence of mind. Human beings are smart and curious and nobody’s fool. I mean all are vulnerable at some time in Life and group think is a powerful mechanism. Still the general thesis that religion creates God is flawed imho.

Imho God is a projection of the human psychological architecture. We externalise our individual micro level experience into a macro level construction. We are omnipresent in our own lives and we are omnipotent in our own lives. It is a step of astonishing simplicity to imagine that our own dual nature of conscious/ unconscious is indicative of the nature of meta reality. The functional advantage of doing so is to make a God in Humanity’s image to legitimate our own nature.

Of course God is also dysfunctional in certain aspects and once the true nature of God is understood and shared then will evolve also. Denial of God serves just to suppress this necessary evolution.

Human beings aren't gullible?! Are of independent mind? Propaganda? Gun loving? Believing/taking the news at face value? Voting for Trump? And levels of independence vary from huge dependence to complete detachment... Furthermore, God is no projection...This is an image of perfection, not common humanity. There is religion - organized creeds - and spirituality; these aren't one and the same thing. Gods came first; then God. But it's also kind of chicken and egg. However perhaps it's no coincidence that the two biggest warmongers are also allegedly the most religious... In God We Trust

hi Literaturegirl
my mistake.
Well, with respect you might not like all humans but you have to concede all are smart! Talking, creation and use of language, walking, creating the wheel, cooking, music! haha sooo smart! Even Tronald Dump!
Evolution away from the stagnant theism atheism standoff is vital. As matters stand God will be the death of humans.

Smart isn't necessarily such a big deal. I love people
I and many others aren't caught up in the theist/atheist standoff
Your issue, so own it - with respect

hi Literaturegirl
haha Humans left Africa just 100,000 years ago! Smart is what defines humans!
I am a humanist also.
I am personally uninterested in the theist atheist standoff. I am content with my resolution of it but it is a popular topic here so I thought I would contribute. That is what this place does isn't it?

Religion came first. God never 'came'. God was always there. Our human vanity just tried to build a cage of words and features for God.

hi Cierzo
I am an atheist but I do understand infinity in so far as the human mind can.
For what it is worth I agree with Philosopher Nick Bostrom who stated that "Unless we are now living in a simulation, our descendants will almost certainly never run an ancestor-simulation."

@sogdianrock Now it is me who does not understand what he means
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Cierzo
God was always there
If it's in any way valid to make such a claim, then it would be equally valid to say that the universe was always there... and that has the advantage of simplicity, because it removes the unnecessary postulation of magical entities.

'Eternity' is one of those concepts that humans think they understand... until they try to understand it. After all, what's half of eternity? Wouldn't it be... eternity? Wouldn't any minuscule portion of eternity be... eternity?

If so, wasn't the last microsecond eternity?

some random guy around 10.000 years ago looked at the sun n went "That ball of light is a god" some other cunt said look that white thing in the night sky must be another. etc etc... eventually (only coz few other religions are still alive thanks to the big ones nowadays killing them off) we got 1. (Except hindu) now everybody worships there robed imaginary friend.

so to answer your question God if you count the sun, religion if you dont.
Very thoughtful words...

However, I believe God exists, but not in a figurative existence ...

God is evolving in its existence... God continues creating in and outside of itself...

That is how I believe it...
May I ask you what you think about the function of God, or idea of God is to believers??
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi Soossie
Of course you can. However I have to walk my dog as it has stopped raining. Always delighted to hear from you! I will get back to you on this.
I do seek a synthesis of theism and atheism. It is clear to me that Gods exist and the point is what are they.
I believe Gods are the projection from the psychological architecture of the human mind. This probably began with consciousness which itself developed when the corpus Coliseum formed. (The brain is divided into the right and left hemisphere , and the two halves are connected by the corpus callosum.) At that point I suspect humans started to experience their own consciousness as voices and externalised that as a Universal being instructing them. God is created in our psychological image - all seeing like we are in our own lives. The step taken with religion is to create a community of shared belief in the external. The function of God is that of consciousness - to allow us self direction and an evolutionary step of huge significance.

ps;
back now. Thought about your question. Well everything believers report as emanating from having their relationship with God. I saw someone here and written how they feared nothing having God by their side. That a typical believer God benefit. Soldiers would have war Gods - in WW1 all German Soldiers wore belt buckles with Gott mit uns ("God with us") on them. Presumably so did everyone else in some format or other.

hi BlueClapTrap
Death is a Life parameter which I suppose would find reflection in Gods we create but I maintain my position that it is our own inner psychological architecture which we project out onto meta reality.
Death may well focus the mind but the mind itself has to create God.

Always so sensitive about this issue, you couldn't breathe a day without it.. looks like you acknowledge God more than the believers..
👍 😊 @sogdianrock, I'm glad that you appreciated the quote. The first time I read it I wondered if it was made before he had his first morning coffee haha. It took a few minutes before I realized the humor. 8)

Yes a great man!
Did you know he had a photograph of James Clerk Maxwell on his office wall all his life. He was a Scottish scientist in the field of mathematical physics. His most notable achievement was to formulate the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation! Even greats have their greats!

@sogdianrock, Physics is wayyy over my head. I had trouble with basic algebra. I admired him as a great man.
Thanks, you too. 8)

Both. This is just from what I know (I could be wrong) but I thought humans are very tribal species. It would be natural to assume that with religion came a "leader." So I would say that both are plausible to come into existence equally for many at least, not all.
Why ? No one has ever answered the question with a god or a religion.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi softspokenman
I am an atheist. So please forgive me for not understanding your answer. What other choice is there?
Best wishes
:)
@sogdianrock, Should I quote someone who hasn't answered the question ?
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi softspokenman
I am am unable to understand your formulation of language.

I don't find God to be a projection.
@sogdianrock I understand that you are building a belief structure that incorporates God. I would submit that God is not observable in the traditional sense that science works. God is above all and can be learned through stories in the Bible which is not a creation of man.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi Aliveshock
I ask that you accept that there have been countless religions and Gods and all the believers shared your genuine reverence for those religions and their holy books.
My point is that we humans are like pilot fish which create a luminescence ahead of themselves.
Best wishes
:)
@sogdianrock
It looks as if you are making an assertion and not a request.
I have found no other "myth" that provides such an incredible and very detailed history like the Bible and a lineage about persons many thousands of years ago.
Claims a Flood that covered the whole earth and a man named Noah built the Ark that saved mankind to continue a progeny.

hi BlueClapTrap
Well I see death as a Life parameter which does not of itself explain why humans throughout recorded history have created an endless litany of religions and Gods. Maybe you are right that without death we would never look for God. Still I do not think fear explains God.
Best wishes

Spirituality was first Religion is just the manipulation of that
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi VraelSona
Is spirituality God?
If so then that is not inconsistent with my thesis that God is a projection of human psychological architecture. If so should we not all agree on this explanation off what God is and stop literal God worship?
best wishes
:)
God and religion are a concept of man.
