Answer - On April 12, 1966, Jan Berry of the 1960s pop-rock duo Jan and Dean crashed his car into a parked truck on Whittier Drive in Los Angeles—just a short distance from the actual "Dead Man's Curve" on Sunset Boulevard that inspired their 1963 hit song. Even more hauntingly, he was driving a 1966 Corvette Stingray, the exact same model of car featured in the lyrics of the song.

EDIT - Jan Berry suffered severe brain damage which led to his early death at the age of 62.
