Serious Question: Why Do People Call Killing Unborn Children Women's Rights? Isn't The Debate About The Rights Of The Baby Not The Woman? Thank You. [I Believe In Womens's Rights]

I am referring to children from the time of conception all the way up to nine months.
It’s inside a girl or woman’s body. Unless girls and women are to be relegated to second class citizenship as human incubators and not people themselves, they get to decide under what circumstances it remains there. The choice has to be theirs.
Because an embryo, or a fetus is not a person.

They only start to have consciousness at around 5 months. The VAST majority of abortions are performed within the first trimester/within 3 months.
Sometimes abortions past the first trimester are medically necessary to save the pregnant persons life.

@AmbivalentFriability What about a 6 month baby?
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Because is a fetus is not morally, ethically, or biologically a full human being in any way EXCEPT when we talk about abortion.

And third trimester abortions are almost always wanted pregnancies that have gone horribly wrong that can result in the horrible painful death of the baby once born, or the mother, or both.

Ask the woman involved...Provide her with information, then support. No one else should be involved. Its difficult enough.😷
Rosejilly · 56-60, F
Abortion will always happen, no point getting round that, so keep it safe.
The foetus cannot survive without the mother so her rights come first.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
No. Some people believe a woman's baby is part of her body and she has every right to decide what to do with it, whether or not others disagree with her choices.

Who cares. Pro-abortion group will give their logic, anti-abortion gives there. This dissent will continue for next few centuries.

Before the life enters, it's more about the woman. After the life entered, it's about the new life.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
The debate gets bogged down with emotive language and fixed positions on what constitutes an independent 'person'. Add to that the modern concept of 'rights' and the resolution of those 'rights' when they clash and it gets interesting and passionate.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Frank52 Rights are all very well.. But the inseperable other side of that coin is responsibility. If you want the right, you accept the responsibilty.. And if you want to bestow a right on someone else, you accept that responsibilty for them..Either as an individual or a society.
walabby · 61-69, M
I do not presume to tell women what they can do with their bodies.
Even so, I don't think a viable fetus should be aborted. If you can't make a decision in the first 20 weeks you should probably go through to completion... ?
SW-User
The argument is that the unborn child is not a "person" and thus has no rights, so the debate is a non-starter. I'm not saying I agree with that position, but that is the idea.
No, not as long as it involves women’s bodies. We are more than human incubators, after all. If there is ever a way to transplant the fetus into an artificial uterus, only then can it be a debate solely about a subsequent baby. To argue otherwise is to dehumanize women and relegate them to second-class citizenship.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
Because an abortion is better than back alley abandoned newborns.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Because there is no such things as an unborn children from the time of conception. That is not a child at conception, at conception it is called a zygote not a child or baby. It is so small you can't even see it.
AnointedOne · 36-40, F
@Subsumedpat wasnt asking about just after conception, was also wondering about 5, 6, 7, and so on month babies.
No it’s not.
When you have two people dependant on the same body you have a conflict of rights. The rights of the fetus should only come into play once it can live independently. Otherwise in nature it is called a parasite.
SunshineBlues · 22-25, F
A fetus is not a baby.

Abortion is only wrong if you use it as a form of birth control. If a woman is going to die during pregnancy, then she has a right to terminate it.
AnointedOne · 36-40, F
@SunshineBlues But it's legal to use it as a form of birth control. It's considered a right. I know people who have had like 5 abortions, and it's legal :(
"It's a parasite."🤦‍♂️
SW-User
@UnderLockDown it's not a parasite. That's a flawed logic. In ecology, you only term those as parasites which actively harm another species to survive. Like, man and tapeworm.

Mother and unborn child is never considered a parasitism, in any kind of biological field.
@SW-User I wasn't being serious, I was pointing out one of the stupidest arguments I've seen. That's why it's in quotes, and followed by the face palm emoji.
As far as I'm concerned, men are not given enough say before, during or after.
I will NEVER be in a relationship for this very reason! I don't want someone to kill my child at any stage of it's existence. Or hold the child over my head and extort money from me while denying me any relationship with the child.

MGTOW!!!😎👍💪
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
And why is this of your concern?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
So you think a clump of cells deserve more rights than an actual sentient human being?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@AnointedOne foetuses aren't babies. They don't have working brains or even a developed central nervous system.
AnointedOne · 36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 i think you're thinking of unborn children early in the process. Babies can be aborted past 6 months now. A baby is fully developed at 7 months, and just gaining weight thereafter. I have a child and I assure you they have working brains!
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@AnointedOne and I reiterate most abortions occur during the first trimester. At that stage there is no brain or consciousness. The exceptions you talk about only happen when there is severe danger to the foetus or the mother of birth were to occur.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
One side is arguing the rights of the unborn the other the rights of the women.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit the unborn are just that. Unborn.

It is my right and yours to choose whether you want to carry that fetus or not. The end.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
@JaggedLittlePill lol yes that’s why I referred to them as I did
