Did you fall out of religion? [I Have Something to Say and I Want to Be Heard]

If so, why and how did it happen? .-.
This is an open post and I will be deleting any uncomforting comments

Also feel free just sharing if you've never been religious, why?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
I've never been really religious. But I still grew up in the shadow of the church tower (sort of speak). And my grandparents were religious, and well... I got influenced. I liked the stories and I prayed.

... then I met a protestant that sharpened my knowledge about the christian faith by explaining the holy trilogy. A concept that I never trully grasped at all. And after that, I came to the conclussion that it doesn't make sense at all and I moved on.

i can appreciate and enjoy the elaborate rituals of the Orthodox church, but i would not claim to have ever met god at any of them.

however, i do believe in god, as a human construct. every culture/society has created its own god(s) in its own image.

We are all born atheists and the road back to atheism, is littered with well read bibles.

Simple as that! 🤷‍♀️
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@Harriet03 we are born neither atheist nor religious. We are not born with the definite knowledge that a god does or does not exist
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@pianoplayingsteve New born babies have zero beliefs in any Gods, until they get indoctrinated.
Sorry to bother you with facts!!
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@Harriet03 New born babies have zero concept of a god, be it the existence of one, or the none existence of one, instead it's just wondering what it's doing outside of the womb...

I always had questions and doubt cause lots of religion rules are contradictory, then I might an atheist - a respectful non pushing one- he asked me questions and I answered then he made me see the flaws in them, we later started debating for hours after hours, and finally it clicked

FYI it happened when I needed to believe there's a God watching over me and hearing my prayers so I was very resistant but he was very patient and through
@Nanori did he answer your questions?
Nanori · F
@TheBlackPowerRanger yes all of them
deadgerbil · 26-30
Yes. It happened gradually as religion wasn't really forced on me.

Looking at religion now, I would find it very difficult to latch onto any particular religion.

They make definitive claims about the world based on bad evidence. Many of them have co existed for thousands of years, yet they can't even reach a consensus about whose God(s) is and who has the right holy book.

In a way, it's pretty comical how they can't figure it out, yet they will demonize atheists who reject all the religious claims.
Strangely I was so anti religion for n my youth. Headstrong know it all better then everyone liberal..
I look around today and see the world is just fucked up with lies cheaters .. genuinely bad ppl.
We strayed away from the moral aspect of it and demonised it.. to turn the place into one giant sodden and Gomorrah..

I’m still not religious. But I wait for the fire n brimstone..
Yes..I was being brought up a Catholic and came to realise-by the time I was 14-what a load of nonsense-I could be ruder-that all was.
I refused to go church -which I surprisingly got away with-and have been an atheist ever since.
At least I wasn’t sent to Catholic school...I’d have been expelled!

I believe in God, but not religion

I dont know if I ever fell in religion, or it was just part of growing up. But I love the show they put on and the symbolism, and even if I don't believe, there's comfort in the rituals of lighting candles and burning sage and incense.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
Yes. I am not sure about the why and how. It is not like I woke up one day and realised it.. It was just a gradual thing.. Continuous exposure to different ideas, and more research that led me to the shocking truth.
@BittersweetPotato I'm curious what the truth you speak of was
SW-User
Yes. The church I’d gone to fell apart. This was when I was still a teen. It disgusted me watching their drama and witch-hunt of one of the pastor’s wives over suspected cheating. I washed my hands of that.

I was a bit on the prodigal son side from age 14 to 20 but found my way back in and very content now.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
How can it be an open post if you delete the responses you don't like?
@Thevy29 no, you misunderstand. In a post like this where I ask atheists to explain how they feel, I believe it is only justice to allow unhindered, unattacked opinions to encourage honest and unfiltered expression. I will be deleting anyone attacking or ridiculing those who fell out of religion or don't believe in God, bro 😅

Likewise, it would be the same for those who believe
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@TheBlackPowerRanger Oh okay. Sounds very fair.
I just fell out of organized religion.
@faithfulhusband so, do you believe in God but just not convinced that the religions are correct?
@TheBlackPowerRanger Pretty much.

But really, but I did very little with my faith during high school 🤔
No... the church locked the doors to me...

I was never really in it
DDonde · 31-35, M
I did, yes.
SW-User
I did. I can't remember why but I stopped believing in God when I was a teenager. Probably something to do with not understanding why my whole life was so fucked up.

I rediscovered belief while reading some philosophy books years later.
@SW-User so you believe in God now?
SW-User
@TheBlackPowerRanger Yes. I do believe in some kind of god now
Lilnonames · F
