what is the Difference

Hey all you knowledgable people when I open my mail box here I sometimes have messages in both of these catogories does anyone know the difference ir the reason?

That feature totally confuses me... some first messages come in as normal dm's, and others come as requests. I can't see any systematic filter behind it.

@helenS @JustJan exactly!
helenS · 36-40, F
@SilkandLace2 It's just a minor annoyance. What really sickens me is the dysfunctional feed algorithm.

@helenS oh!! Agreed!

One is from a user you have contacted before and had dialogue with/maybe a friend and the other a user possibly from an age group you haven’t approved regarding being able to message you.

@therighttothink50 thank you very much I couldn't work it out x
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
@JustJan you can always accept the message though…

From friends vs from strangers
There's also something to do with a 'reputation' secret sauce, higher for people who do the 'right' sw things, lower for new, people who get lots of warnings, etc.

If you have moved the message to archive, it will be showing up like that sometimes
JustJan · F
@Nick007 I'll remember that as didnt know that either
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
@JustJan then you have to go to archive messages to permanently delete by clicking on reading the FULL conversation again.

The times I opened a "requested" message it was someone screaming abuse at me so I don't open them any more 🙄😂
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
check your profile, you may require that you send a message to them before you receive one from them.
Convivial · 26-30, F
I'm sure you have it figured out by now ... But just in case lol...requests are from people you haven't messaged with before...
ABCDEF7 · M
First time messages from users you are neither friends/following nor sent any messages before, goes to requests instead of unread.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
Requests means you have to approve them being able to message you more than twice.
