Y'all aren't going to believe this one, but I'm going to tell it, anyway.

It was 2002. I had walked down to the 7-Eleven near my house, and I was wearing a Darth Vader T-shirt. This really hairy guy with pronounced canine teeth saw my shirt, and he started talking about his brother's Star Wars collection. Said he had the biggest, most complete collection of anybody he knew. All the action figures, all the spaceships, all the playsets. All still in the box. I was jealous.

AND THEN...

Then he told me about the crown Jewel in his brother's collection. A full size working model of an X-Wing fighter. He said his brother had built it himself.

At this point, I didn't know what was wrong with this guy, but my instincts told me to shut up, smile and nod, and keep listening, because this was about to get good.

And sure enough, this guy wove a story of galactic proportions. He told me about the time he borrowed his brother's X-Wing without his permission, and took it for a test flight. It was a rough one, you see, because the Air Force got involved. They tried the radio him, but because X-Wings operate on a different radio frequency, he couldn't hear them, they couldn't hear him. They shot at him, and he barely got the X-Wing back to his brother's garage before they shot him down.

I am sure this fine individual would have provided me with endlessly entertaining tales of adventure in his brother's X-Wing, but right about then, another guy came out of his car, saw him talking to me, and said, "What are you doing? She's waiting!"
