Why Are People So Judgmental?

A few days ago, I’ve started an introduction to a person here to say hello and meet someone new. That person came back complaining about the US and how the government was being ran. Then that person asked me who I voted for. When I said I voted for the independent candidate because I feel we need a change from the two major parties, that person said that I helped Trump get elected and then blocked me.

Why are people so rude and upset, especially when they don’t even live here?

I am not wanting to start some sort of political war here, I’m just saying.

Honestly, I prefer to know where I stand with someone before I befriend them, although I can still be civil.

Politics is playing a bigger part than many once thought it would. The fact that people are losing rights they thought they could take for granted in the U.S. is illustrating that.

There are still plenty who don’t have to concern themselves and they will never understand why some of us are very afraid right now. Unfortunately the divide is real and is probably going to last for awhile. 🥺

@bijouxbroussard Please don’t be discouraged. There are more that stand with you than you probably realize.

Greg if a person blocks you for who you voted for then they were not worth talking with in the first place. I would take it as a blessing myself.

Personally, I will not discuss my political beliefs on here and I will say I believe in God and Jesus Christ and that I do not care how someone else believes that is their right that I served 27 years in the Army to support their right to do whatever,

So, you are better off without judgmental folks.

Remember, you can’t control others, you can only control how you respond to them. If you don’t want to talk about government or politics, maybe next time you change the subject instead of telling them for whom you voted.

Also, fwiw, just because someone doesn’t live in the US doesn’t mean they won’t be impacted by our government and politics and by whom we choose to be our leaders.

For whatever reason, a LOT of Westerners really seem to feel it is their right to complain about American politics and stick their noses in our private business.

You don't want someone that judgemental and divisive as a friend.
Nightwings · 31-35, F
@SumKindaMunster It is not your private business!

It is real people, children even, who live or die when an American snaps his fingers.

It stopped being your private business a long time ago.

The people who appear "rude" to you, want you to acknowledge the horrific consequences of YOUR actions.

If my husband dies, it will be because of you, I will hold Americans responsible, because it IS AMERICANS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE.

Americans like you think the people they talk with on the internet are not real people. It is first when you are face to face with someone that it hits you that the people you have doomed to death – and even worse – are interesting, beautiful, intelligent, talented, kind, REAL people.

Americans who voted for Trump have possibly now caused WWIII, and everyone except the stupid fucking Americans who are to blame, understand this.

Shame on you for having such a poor attitude.

People who make snap judgments based on their own agendas are more common than they should be, and not worth wasting time on. Politics is polarizing, but you’ll find that even among best friends you won’t get complete agreement on politics, books, movies ir lots of things. If that person blocked you because you didn’t vote the way they would have, you saved yourself a lot of time and trouble.

Because the choices of US citizens impact the rest of the world, and people literally die because someone thought a candidate was "too woke" or some other childish nonsense.

In other words, when you voted this election, you were not choosing what's gonna happen where you live, you chose what's gonna happen where I live! Now many more people will die in Ukraine because Trump won, now my husband may never escape the country, and too die – that is actually your fault, whether you were aware of it when you voted or not.

I think people just want Americans to realize that it is their fault. It is their responsibility.

That being said, this person was way out of line. It's hard to understand why they would even bring this up just because you said hello to them.
powernap · 56-60, M
Dude, you made two mistakes here. First, you told this person who you voted for. Second, they didn't make you mad or upset you, you CHOSE how to react to their response.

It is nobody else's freaking business who you voted for. If they don't like it, they can piss off.

Nobody makes us do anything. Everything we do is by choice. If more people could grasp this simple truth, I think we would have a better, happier society.

I will say that voting for the independents for President at this point favors the GOP and this definitely happened during the last election.
By here I hope you don't mean SW. You introduce people in RL face to face, not on a hipster version of X and Reddit 🤭

i dont get how people fall out over politics
its a deep and complex subject
its like arguing over quantum entanglement
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Matt85 For some on this website, it's name calling.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@Burnley123 Yeah I think I've seen that, unfortunately. People need to understand you have a different political stance and still be friends.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Matt85 And even if they can't be friends, they can still communicate like adults.
that person most likely did you a favor.

Weird. No great loss. There are lots of good people here. On both sides. Or no side.
akindheart · 61-69, F
they shouldn't ask if they don't want to know. sounds like a fact hunting message to me.

That's an abnormal way to approach someone.
And rude.

Politics and religion used to be subjects avoided. In some cases now politics is a religion
