Because evolution drives appearance to be a proxy for health and reproductive ability. The is true not only of humans but also every other animal; for instance the peacock and his tail.
@ninalanyon It seems that the use of age defying remedies are becoming more and more predominant, especially by those that can afford them, and even by those that can’t. And as marriages no longer hold together and people find themselves single again the latter part of their lives, looking good still remains important
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Ghostinthemachine That's true, I use retinol day and night creams myself to try to smooth my wrinkles a little. A month's worth is only the price of a few cups of coffee so I think most people in the west who have a reasonable income can probably afford it provided they don't buy the expensive brands.
@ninalanyon we do what we can, right?
Everyday it seems the person looking back at me in the mirror keeps looking older, sometimes shockingly so
JustNik · 51-55, F
All those things that allowed humans to survive are still with us, even though they’re not so important anymore. What we do have, or most of us anyway, is the ability to see past the instinctual reaction. Sometimes what we see of a person’s character can literally make their imperfections attractive. I imagine not every great hunter in the cave was a hunk.
@JustNik interesting how what becomes important over time, both the physical and non-physical qualities, change and evolve over time.
Poor Cave Hunter peaked too soon
FlutteringWordsX · 41-45, F
To the right and kind people it's not important at all.
@FlutteringWordsX I do hope they find each other
Fertilization · 36-40, F
Because no one has an access to a human heart in the first place.
@Fertilization I’m sure it was, if not before the internet, before cellphones became smartphones
Fertilization · 36-40, F
@Ghostinthemachine And when cellphones became smartphones, nothing remained as innocent as it used to be.
@Fertilization nothing ever does, it just seems innocence lost arrives earlier and earlier, and wonderment of youth more fleeting
Fa8393 · 41-45, M
I think its important , as humans in society we do want to attract who we want to date .
@Fa8393 as far as physical appearances go, be careful what you wish for sometimes, especially once the personality that can come with it makes an appearance
Lilymoon · F
They are not that important but they are pleasant to look at.
@Lilymoon easy on the eyes they are
bookerdana · M
Oh,they may catch yer 👁 but that diminishes over time
bookerdana · M
@Ghostinthemachine There ya go! 👊
@bookerdana another disaster averted in the nick of time 👊

ABCDEF7 · M
Because our vision(eyes) contributes to highest percentage in making our perception, i.e. 30%
@ABCDEF7 a friend once told me that if you like the way a woman looks, sounds and smells, she’s the one for you. I wonder if he ever found someone that fit all three categories 🤔
ABCDEF7 · M
@Ghostinthemachine Thank god he didn't added about the taste. 🤣
@ABCDEF7 I guess he hadn’t got that far yet 😂

@jshm2 “love at first sight” is such a superficial thing
SeaGlass · F
There are lots of visual cues that help size up a potential mate's health
@SeaGlass True.
Plus I always bring a stethoscope and a thermometer 🌡 to a first date 🩺
SeaGlass · F
Ohh... Dr.@Ghostinthemachine 🫠
@SeaGlass
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Many strive for “perfection” especially the superficial type that can be lost in an accident, an illness or aging.
@cherokeepatti perfection is an unattainable illusion imho
Madmonk · M
Because nobody wants ugly children. There wouldn’t be any ugly people if we had never discovered alcohol
@Madmonk ugly people/children need love too
😔
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
It’s just a mask
@Jenny1234 and we all wear them

Just ask that Phantom fella
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Ghostinthemachine well I don’t necessarily think that looks are so important. Personality, intelligence, and hygiene our first and foremost for me
@Jenny1234 In the immortal words of Meatloaf, “two outta three ain’t bad”
Which two would you prefer in a partner?
PaleandPolluted · 36-40, F
Human nature
@PaleandPolluted I look around and not every couple has given in to it
@ThreeLittleBirds neither do I 🤷
great stuff , lol 🥴@Ghostinthemachine
@ThreeLittleBirds I was hoping you or someone here could offer some insight 😬
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Society is shallow
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine Well lots of people feel differently about that.

It’s crazy how it gets to the point where it’s so obvious that people have had cosmetic surgery and start looking malformed but they think they look great.
@iamonfire696 it’s sad, and it doesn’t help that those closest to them enable them by telling them how good they look, when they actually look like frozen faced monsters
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine “frozen faced monsters” 😂 that’s exactly what they look like.
tenente · 100+, M
people are judgemental and have a preconceived notion of good and bad. i'm an entrepreneur and i work hard to project a healthy image. i try to eat right, work out every day and get enough sleep. i'm so sick and tired of caring for this POS body
@tenente regardless of your image, what you’re doing for yourself has long term benefits, health wise
