If you were the last human on Earth...

What matters most to you?

How about your emotions? Will you panic or despair? Or would you remain calm and peaceful?
Would memories have any meaning then?

How would you spend the remaining years of your life?
I’d continue to seek the Lord. I’d also start exploring and seriously study the world around me as it changed. (I’ve always been fascinated by nature taking back over when people weren’t keeping up on things)
My emotions matter. It’s still possible to go insane even if I’m so sick of people most of the time that the lack of everyone sounds ideal.
I’d probably write my memories out. That helps me these days; it’d probably help if there really was no one left.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Colonelmustardseed One last story....right? hmm... I understand.
@Renkon No. It’s got nothing to do with telling a story. It’s for the sake of remembering. Writing things down helps people retain memories.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Colonelmustardseed Yes, that would help.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
I believe I would remain calm. To be sure there would be times of great sadness. The loss of my family and friends, whom I love and have brought great joy into my life, would be very very hard to bear.

But I am, and have always been, a loner…solitary…an introvert. I would become an explorer and wanderer….bearing witness to the transformation of the world from the world of man to something else.

I would strive to find meaning in that transformation, and understand why my creator spared me and no one else….what lessons does my creator intend that I learn in my remaining time upon the earth.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@blackarcher256 I hadn't thought of exploring the country, but yes! I definitely agree with you.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
What matters most to you?
Safety and proper nutrition. I'm not sure how would I do that.

How about your emotions? Will you panic or despair? Or would you remain calm and peaceful?
I'd panic, that would be quite a shock and a drastic change.

Would memories have any meaning then?
Meaning or not, you can't erase them. They would be painful because everything would be harder.

How would you spend the remaining years of your life?
I assume constant hard work to provide safety and proper nutrition, if I would figure out how to provide on my own in the first place.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLoverI believe health will be the top concern. To survive, one must effectively manage them.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Renkon Further, if only humans would disappear, there would be many dogs left that would go wild and hungry, preying on other animals. I would definitely have to find some way to protect myself and domestic animals I would attempt to take care of from them.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover That's like returning to the wilderness and the old ways of life. Livingon ones wits.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I would just make the best of it and prepare myself to die.

If I'm the last human alive. There will be no point to leave notes or letters. No one to read them.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Nothing would keep me motivated. I probably just wonder around just wanting to die. I would just give up
Renkon · 41-45, M
@HumanEarth 🙁...that would be sad way to go. But may be that's the truth.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Well, can't lie to yourself
BeJeweled · F
I'd miss my loved ones and cry. Then I'd visit places I'd never been too. Hopefully I'd have pets to comfort me and take care of.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@BeJeweled The memories of loved ones can be hard on the heart. That's a hell of a burden. Where would you like to visit one last time?
BeJeweled · F
@Renkon I like the Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota most of all.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@BeJeweled What's special about those places? Have you got any nice memories there?
InHeaven · F
Something like that will happen soon. There will be almost last humans on earth . I would just probably look for food and pray 🤷‍♀️
Renkon · 41-45, M
@InHeaven Do you pray for children to have the opportunity to take birth?
InHeaven · F
@Renkon huh. 😳😳😳No. Not looking to give birth in 2024 … nope. Plus, I have one kid…
Renkon · 41-45, M
@InHeaven Lol... I didn't mean you. I meant for them to take birth in different families.
darkmere1983 · 46-50, M
i would love it, just me and the crows/seaguls, i'd make the most of it- i'm not a big fan of people.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@darkmere1983 You appear to enjoy being in nature. The silence, tranquility, and chirping of birds. How long will this feeling last?
An interesting question.

Stephie · 22-25, F
@Bel6EQUJ5 If I was in that situation, my last thought would be for my family and the ones I love. I would not attempt to find another soul that may have survived in a vain attempt to save humanity. it does not deserve to be saved. Give the planet the chance it has to regenerate itself without the presence of the biggest predator it has ever seen.

I could say that I had the fate of mankind in my hands and that I made the right choice.
@Stephie If I were in that situation, I, like anyone else, wouldn't really know that I was the last, and I'd almost certainly assume there was someone, somewhere else. Searching for other survivors would at least give me something to do to occupy my time, even if it turned out to be a futile endeavour.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Bel6EQUJ5 humans are social animals and you are right, we would probably all try to find someone to be in company with. Survival in a group is easier than all alone, mainly knowing that not many of us have the necessary survival knowledge.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
I'm already doing that. Except SW provides additional socializing beyond my critters
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
I believe, calm and peaceful.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Jonjdw That would be a wonderful mindset to have.
Are you sure you won't feel isolated or lonely at some point?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@Renkon no I’m not sure lol
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Jonjdw That would be good.
Rudboy41 · 41-45, M
I would enjoy it, like will smith in 'i am legend' but without the infectious plague and sad memories. I would make friends with all the animals i find, and live where ever i wanted, rent-free, king of the world.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Rudboy41 That's a positive perspective. If you like being in nature, you might be able to get through those days.
Rudboy41 · 41-45, M
@Renkon it wouldn't be a question of 'maybe ill get through the days' it would be like some happy reverse biblical miracle happened and i became Adam and the world is my cold sober eden. As a people pleaser, this type of scenario would be nothing but blissful relief, no more people to work for or please!
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Rudboy41 Hmm... that's a fact too.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I think I could handle it. I'd explore, salvage, survive. I might kind of like that. No responsibilities, no duties.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Nitedoc It would be tough for me. Good to know you could good handle.

Ynotisay · M
I think it would entirely be about survival. It's a human instinct and everything else would be secondary.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay That is a fact. Survival should triumph all other needs.
Shadyglow · F
Wouldn't happen that way, and the last people would be psycho and not even human.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Shadyglow I was the same. The person might loose their human nature and descend into its animal ways.
Adrift · 61-69, F
I would make friends with all the stray dogs.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Adrift Would there be stray dogs?
Adrift · 61-69, F
@Renkon You said last human not last living being.
So I assume yes.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Adrift yup. True.
Elisbch · M
That's something I'll never have to concern myself with. 😊
Fatalice · 41-45, F
Xpanic as I’m totally dependent on others
Fatalice · 41-45, F
No and I’d be dead of lack of water in s few days@Renkon
I guess I’d comfort eat till I gab no food
Renkon · 41-45, M
@FataliceI doubt that's a good idea. But there should be enough of water to drink. You will have access to clean, unadulterated water without polluting from humans.
Fatalice · 41-45, F
I’m not able to stand unaided il bed bound@Renkon
I would think of only the best in everyone… I’d drive from place to place until i couldn’t anymore because of the physics involved then I’d jump off a cliff into the ocean holding onto those beautiful memories
Renkon · 41-45, M
@ThreeLittleBirds Woah! Why would you jump off a cliff? Would you chose to stop living?😮

Perhaps at that moment, whether you live or die will not matter much.
Isn't that the basis of "I am Legend"?
Renkon · 41-45, M
@jackieash27 Kind of, minus the Zombies.
I have read about cases whereby one looses all their sense of identity and time in true solitude in nature/when locked away. Being misanthropic, I would initially feel exhilarated but I'm sure sooner or later having no entertainment or learning resources, I'd slowly start to act on instinct and my mind would deteriorate without further stimuli. I wouldn't miss society one bit however. 😁
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Nihiless I feel the same. Without social stimuli ourhuman nature will deteriorate and ouranimal instinctswill take over.
If only ... 😌
Renkon · 41-45, M
@NoThanksLeon Are you fed up with the world? 🤔
@Renkon Nah, just humanoids.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Looking for food.
Lilnonames · F
I would find nice cars and ride around in them. Live in nice places. Take pictures. Travel around eat good and keep a journal for aliens to find
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Lilnonames Take photos?
That sounds intriguing. What for?

"..journal for aliens" .. That was funny Lol.
I'd go to the local RV dealer and lift a 33' diesel pusher, get a hand crank pump to raid the truck stop tanks, raid oxygen supply stores for tanks, pharmacies for meds I need, and gun stores for ammo for my weapons, as well as stores for food and supplies, then drive straight for the Oregon coast.

cc: @Lilnonames @beermeplease @Musicman
Renkon · 41-45, M
@NativePortlander1970 That looks straight out of a movie. But ispragmatic.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@NativePortlander1970 They do have 12v electric high volume transfer pumps. Save you a lot of time and effort.
@Musicman True

A human living alone, does not remain human for long
That's a fascinating thought.
I was thinking the same thing. Without the presence of another human being, one may descendtotheir animal natureand finally become one.

@twistedrope 🤔 that bad huh? couldn’t handle loneliness ? Can’t blame the last person to go to those extremes.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
@Renkon At that point, probably not. Humans are naturally social creatures, we crave it. Without it, just another constant stress & pain. At that point, why even go on.

@Darksideinthenight2 I'm guessing you cannot bear the monotony.
