Probably too early in the morning for this but ..

If one gets a brain transplant, would they wake up to be who there were before or would they be the one they got the brain from?
In other words , is our brain
our sole ,
our personality,
all we are?

Good morning btw, here is some coffee ☕️🤗
Risky surgery. What if you got the brain of a trumper?!?!?!?! And you woke and realized you went from a 150 IQ to a single digit?????
@Niloo Tested 3 times.......I'm a 149. MENSA member. You??
@Niloo So that is why we relate so easily............. ;-)

My mom said I was functional enough 😬

Interesting question. We know that the brain houses personality. It processes emotions and perceptions, although it doesn't "house" them like it does personality. Those originate in the body.

So I guess this person would have the personality and memories of the last person they came from, although those memories would only be episodic in nature. Meaning, they wouldn't remember the sensations, the emotions... It would be like remembering a dream.

To put it simply, they would remember the previous person's life but experience the next person's sensations. It would be surreal.

@Niloo I'm glad it didn't explode. May I offer you an office chair that rocks instead of explodes?

@SinlessOnslaught
Nah
I like that little excitement in my life !😏
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts !

@Niloo Such a brave woman 🥺

There is that thing called body memory. A friend of mine had a liver transplant and during her time in hospital she made friends with another woman who had a kidney transplant. The other woman has great difficulty because when she looks in the mirror she sees a very ugly man staring back at her. The kidney she received was from a deceased male. My friend's new liver came from a woman and she has had no such problem.

@hippyjoe1955
Very interesting ..
It also gave me the chills 😊

@Niloo Adding a bit: I heard someone on the radio talking about body memory as well. He said he hated mac and cheese. Absolutely loathed it. Made him gag to even try to swallow it. He had an organ transplant and woke up wanting to eat mac and cheese. He tried it and found out that he liked it. He then found out that organ donor absolutely loved mac and cheese.

I think the stored memories would effect us. I do believe that we have a soul and so I’m not sure how that would change our identity. 🧐
Let me get a cup of the Joe quick here!

@Niloo I would find it very interesting if a man would receive a woman’s brain or the opposite? Would that make a difference? 🧐
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Pfuzylogic
That would be even more difficult of and adjustment. 🤔

@Niloo
Talk about gender confused! 😅

😆 I bet they will be what the new brain 🧠 is….which is why they call it brainwashing.

GM, Niloo! 😊💙🌷

@Vivaci
Haha!
I think I need a less chaotic one so I won’t get lost on it so much 😅
You are absolutely right!🤗
We can always make ourselves better , brain function included !
I really do hope that we are not all brain. Somehow, thinking that we might only a be marvelous combination of chemicals and random accidents that happen to work well , makes me sad 😊
@Niloo Lolz…you might just need a break and a holiday, Niloo! I know the pandemic has slowed down our plans and so many things seem uncertain that it just adds to the daily chaos. 💙💙💙

Some of us are brainless and some cold as stone…and sometimes we wish we were like them, don’t we? But we can’t coz we have a heart that cares…
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Vivaci
I couldn’t agree more .🤗
I don’t ever want to be cold as stone , but I think I wouldn’t mind being brainless for a while 😄
Pretzel · 61-69, M
I don't believe in a soul so the brain is the sole repository of our personality

but it would notice the change in center of gravity, length of the legs and arms and general physical characteristics.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Pretzel
Thank you :)
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Assuming the possibility of a total brain transplant, the person who woke up would be the donor of the brain, just in a new body. All we are is in the brain.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@DunningKruger
Hopefully it would be like riding a new car 😏
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Niloo I imagine there would be a pretty steep learning curve learning to drive a new body, as each one is a custom job with its own quirks and kinks.
Niloo · 46-50, F
@DunningKruger
Yes,
I would guess so :)

Umm, it's nearly 11:30 here and it's either still too early, or I'm just too lazy to deeply ponder the brain transplant ordeal.🤭

In a sense, yes to all of these being the fabric that makes us ourselves. However, look at the sum of external forces at play. Each experience and every person to enter our lives affects "who" we really are. Because we gain valuable insight from whatever lesson(s) they teach us; the good and the bad. It's how we grow.🌷

Perhaps I'm all together lost in regards to the question at hand. It wouldn't be the first time, so ignore me if so.😏

ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Mentally, they'd be the person the brain comes from
Niloo · 46-50, F
@ChipmunkErnie
Makes sense .
Thank you :)

I don't know, 🤔 but there sure are a lot of people HERE that need a brain transplant! 😂
Shallowaters · 36-40, M
Well why ru so curious about the brain activity
Shallowaters · 36-40, M
Nothing negative but just gave a thought that u had a curiosity for this topic in the morning 😜
Niloo · 46-50, F
@Shallowaters
Someone I know is on death bed 😞
brains surgery changes someone regardless if it is their brain or a transplant.
Niloo · 46-50, F
