Do the Boy Scouts still do, "Bob a Job"?(both)

When I was a Scout we had Bob a Job week as a fundraiser.
Visiting peoples homes to do jobs for them. Be it Gardening, Window /Car Washing etc.
We would be paid in Bobs, 20 cent increments. Though most people paid $1 or $2.
We also had "Bottle Week"
We went door to door collecting bottles for recycling cash.
I'm talking 1970's and 80's

I used to do the same.
Pretty good back then.
As a matter of safety you only ever went to neighbours or family.
Invariably i'm sure they felt guilty so you always ended up getting paid more than perhaps you should have.

@Picklebobble2 Safety was not an issue in Queenstown Tasmania in the 70's. All houses were visited though most people new each other. Town of 2,500 residents

I got drummed out.

@kentex35 Please explain?
kentex35 · 100+, M
@Gusman I was kidding I didn't get kicked out, but tried to pass second clad cooking or something grabbed a potato and a piece of roast went off by myself started a fire ,cooked it and the assistant failed me saying i wouldn't have found those if alone or something like that, guess i should have eaten some bugs. The kind of guy that barely made the military and his only line of defense would be something like don't mess with me i know fifty ways to kill with my bare hands.
If anyone ever suss don't mess with me I was inn the marines go ahead and punch him, every marines that ever served will thank you. TMI huh

@kentex35 Those smart arses are everywhere. Trying to laud it over people.
I dislike pretentious people with a passion

The boy Scouts are very close to shutting down completely due to sexual abuse scandals and pay outs to the victims
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Unequal2Trash Being in Tasmania I never saw/experienced/heard about any instances in my Troop.
Not saying it did not happen. Though none of my Troop leaders were ever charged or the like. So most likely we were scandal free.

@waleskinder Idk here they may have to file chapter 11 because of settelments.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
They don't let kids do that anymore really. I kid you not, some places will crack down on kids trying to mow lawns for money because they don't have business licenses and to protect all the yard service businesses that are everywhere nowadays.

@ViciDraco The world has become a sad place indeed. Money/Profit and Corruption is destroying Community Spirit.

@Gusman everyone's gotta earn a dollar, and tough luck if someone more powerful than you wants your dollar.
