I don't think they're fake. Sure, compliments from relatives you don't see very often can be seem a little exaggerated and cheesy, but I don't think they're actually faking it. (My grandparents still comment on how tall I am even though I haven't grown in years 🤣).

Well I'm not a fan of meaningless platitudes. At least half the time they are said with the opposite intent as well. Like people that are mad at you but tell you to have a blessed day but they actually mean have a bad day. I have ran into that so much platitudes are actually insults to me much of the time now. lol

No, they are mostly honest with me. Maybe they pull this card after feeling like they overloaded me with criticism to gloss it over but that's about it.
