Would you ever move to those senior communities?

I'd rather not live in college dorm life for older people. I'm not paying high amounts of money to be told what to do or to eat unseasoned food. Yes there are perks such as activities and socialization but I can do that from my own home. My home,my rules and my freedom over some fancy community anyday.

I have been at a few due to work and i was impressed. There's one that had everything. A barbershop, a beauty salon, a gym, they had gourmet food, i would go there every friday because they had free drinks and entertainment like live bands etc.... so i would visit just to take my clients, I looked at the invoice of one of my clients and she was paying $20,000 a month. Her son-in-law plays baseball for the Houston Astros.
@AngelUnforgiven Holy cats ! Who can afford that (other than the very wealthy) ?
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@AngelUnforgiven The cost is outrageous! I do foot the bill for my mothers care for dementia.

I have looked at that one myself recently.. But although I see advantages for those gregarious people who want to play bowls or swim and attended fitness classes, the loss of my location and the many years of familiarity with the people around me is more valuable to me..I am downsizing within my own home, abandoning the top floor..😷
I might, eventually. I live alone, and when/if I get to the point where getting around is difficult, I may definitely look into that. There are some where the members are very independent, only given assistance when they indicate a need.

I have a younger cna from the philippines living with me in my house as a border.
She has been cleaning, washing, and cooking instead of paying rent.

I've never heard of a senior community that restricts your food or tells you what to do. That sounds more like what I would call a Nursing Home.
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@4meAndyou I assumed it was a similar concept with the only true difference being independence levels.

@deepblacknothingness Nope. There are many senior communities where people just buy a property. There might be a clubhouse, or a pool, or pickleball, a store or even a restaurant on the grounds...but it's just like buying a house. No restrictions. If the people who live there need help, they hire it.

I have toured one; it was awesome. But, assuming I could afford it at all, it would leave nothing for the kids to inherit. I'd like the kids to get some chunks of money when I'm gone.
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@Poppies Very understandable what they charge is outrageous.
I might not have much choice in the matter. I can't rely on others to look after me when I'm in a flare-up forever.

I heard of some older people that just live on cruise ships, it’s cheaper than a nursing home and more fun 😅
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@YoMomma That does sound enticing.
YoMomma · 41-45
@deepblacknothingness yeah lol i went on one once ☺

I live in one it's great
Wiseacre · F
@WowwGirl why would a young person live in one of those?
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
I don't think I'd be welcome in one of those.

@deepblacknothingness I think I would be to much for them with my tics and outbursts I have.
I dont really see that happening. I plan to live off my kids. LOL
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@MayorOfCrushtown My children are cats I cannot live off of them unfortunately.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MayorOfCrushtown Your kids may have a different idea..😷
I'm not stepping into one of those. That's for heteronormative souls who’ve forgotten how to sparkle and shine in their lives!
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@FairyDuster Yes, you understand!
Wiseacre · F
Not unless I had to.
RV. Your size and style.

What happens when you can't even make it to the toilet on your own?
deepblacknothingness · 56-60, M
@BuzzedLightyear I will invest in adult diapers.
