Where has common sense gone?

Have politicians eroded the right of free sensible discussion?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
No -- it's a large segment of the public who have no sense; politicians just reflect those who elect them.

It's basically the media that has lost its senses and trolling politicians for content. They're least bothered about what we think. This they enjoy unquestionable authority over us and dictate what we should learn, how we should learn and how we must think.
Only the right-wing ones. There's still lots of healthy discussion outside of the Right.
@Elessar I consider Tankies to be on the Right in that they're Authoritarians. They're usually better on social issues, but social issues are a result of economic and government policy. That's why in practice, tankie governments are usually anti-queer.

@BohemianBabe Oh, auth-left is definitely a thing, right vs left is usually the economic or at most social policies axis
@Elessar I disagree with that. I think that the main political spectrum is Authoritarianism vs Democracy. While there are some exceptions, pretty much everything is a result of where you are on that spectrum. Economics, social issues, government, it's all a result of where you think power should be located, either within the 1% or spread throughout society.
Tankies are considered Auth-Left, they're the upper-left of the cube. This would be a society with both a dictator and queer rights. But in practice, tankie countries have been more reactionary on queer rights than liberal Republics. Tankie countries have also been anti-union.
Another interesting example is the Libertarians. They claim to be right-wing on economics, left-wing on social issues. But in practice, they usually go along with the Right, no matter how extreme the Right becomes.
It went out the window decades ago... Or maybe it never existed and our memories of it are just blurred by nostalgia.

@NerdyPotato The latter
We have had a whole segment decide that they could give up on provable facts.

If we don't agree on facts, we can't really have a discussion.

I believe there are people who are buying and selling the politicians. They are global power brokers, who have also purchased almost all of our news channels. Our news media have become propaganda machines, which transmit very little news, and tons of left wing opinions and destructive rants. The people who LISTEN eventually become brainwashed, and begin to repeat the destructive rants themselves.

Sometimes I wonder if we don't have common sense because we don't share common spaces. Everything is digital now and humans can only glean so much rationale from words on a screen. Without the ability to meaningfully communicate with one another, we're stuck in our own bubbles, increasingly less cognizant of what's going on around us

When political leaders see that people themselves indulge in insensible discussions, they feel themselves qualified to be their leader in doing such insensible discussions.

When they will see, all people reject their insensible point of view, the politicians will be more sensible from then onwards.

Yes they have. Pick a side, find your truth and be unbendable. It’s not a lot of fun, really, and it’s dumbing people down
Dictators are less corrupt then what north america has
@Justafantasy Mainly because here people are pretending that’s not where things are headed.
emotions replaced logic long time ago.
Define "common sense".
Panna · 22-25, F
@jackieash27 Google it!
@Panna Point being it's not as common as people think.
Bang5luts · M
Unfortunately seems to be that way

@Pretzel Sounds much more like the old way of thinking has re-emerged.
