Why do we call it common sense when it seems uncommon to be found in the average person?

Atleast these days..

I think it’s one of those terms that sets you up for disappointment because what someone perceives to be common sense will vary from person to person. Very rarely does somebody sync their beliefs/attitude/actions aren’t ‘common sense’.

I think it’s common sense that if your life sucks you should figure out a game plan to make it better, do a lot of research, figure out what skills you’ll need to achieve the steps, begin the process of learning those skills, and talk to people who have successfully done the thing you’re trying to do etc.

Someone else might say, “Eventually we’re all going to die. Why even have goals when we don’t know if tomorrow will even come? Society and culture is a construct, not ‘real’. People should spend their short time on earth having fun”
Gaslighting. 😂

It's an expression that tells people they're stupid, but in a polite way. 😂

It is a ridiculous expression used lazily by some people to label opinions and beliefs that they hold to be self-evidently true.

If there were any such thing as common sense, there would be no need for government, political discussion, religion . . and the world would be a much more boring place.

because back when people thought for themselves instead of having a computer think for that,

and critical thinking was an everyday occurrence a lot of things were common sense

It is the 'should' part which we look for
