To be fair, spam and catfish are a growing problem on all corners of social media on the internet from dating sites to general social media sites. Without requiring social media and dating apps to require all users verify their the real deal (as in verification is non-optional) there's not really any way to stop it.
On Instagram I get followed by like 20 something catfish accounts per month. So trust me I know how annoying it is. A new catfish who followed me this evening was a Futurama joke waiting to happen.

@AstroZombie See that’s what I’m saying 😂 they’re EVERYWHERE now. Some of them don’t even try to look real anymore either 💀 people still fall for it though and that’s the part that kills me lol

Do you think that you are the only person whose sitting back and laughing? Some of these people are trolling catfish out of boredom. They know that these people are fakes lol
People are just thirsty for attention and it's sad to have to make a whole fake persona in order for people to even know that you exist.

@CharityRae I didn't say that you did. I'm sayiing that the people who you think is falling for it may not be . People are smarter than what we give them credit for especially in a time of AI they know that people are fakes lol
