Ah, those catfish!

So I just received a notification that someone had responded to one of those posts about "what is your stripper name."

I looked at that username and thought, "That has to be a catfish."

I checked the profile, and I found:

"This account has received several reports regarding its identity. Please use caution when communicating with this user."

This is getting way too easy! 😄

I'm getting a catfish as we speak. Young beautiful 20 something babe saying "Hi handsome"

No posts at all of course.

As much as I would like to believe I'm good looking, super hot 20 year olds, do not like old men.

@JasminD Be sure to keep me updated! 😅

@JimboSaturn But how do you know, it's all by text, certainly in your fifty years you have learned some words? And if it's all about words, for catfish, then whose losing out? (It's a writing exercise, if nothing more)

Honestly it's too easy that I find it boring

@SW-User They are so lame; poor effort catfish! Lazy little scammers aren't they?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SW-User That's kinda what I am trying to communicate to any catfish who might be reading my post! 😄

I feel you and these are the only catfish I like.

DrWatson · 70-79, M
@WillaKissing I think catfish are quite tasty. I resent the internet for giving them a bad name! 😅
WillaKissing · 56-60
@DrWatson Oh, I agree with 100% with you!

I wish there was a different name for fake profiles.

As a child, I quite liked cats and thus catfish as well. I always admired their whiskers.

And I remember my grandpa telling me that they make a sound like a purr when you catch them. But I'm not sure if that is truthful or not as we never tried to catch any because my dad thought catfish tasted bad and called them garbage fish.

@Scribbles In the early days of the internet, the term that was used in IRC chatrooms for a man pretending to be a woman was "poser." I like that better.

I think "catfish" originally was used to refer to a man who set up a female profile and tried to use it to actually establish a long-term, online romantic relationship. The term seems to have become more general over time, to include men who do this for the most whimsical of reasons.

There are also the catfish who are slightly older men who happen to be rich or at least upper middle class business owners.
I have been contacted by a couple of those.

But yeah in either case, whether a 19 year old hoebag or a mature "man of means", either way you can instantly tell they are BS'ing.

@CestManan and their are players too out to break your heart in two.

@SW-User Ya know there is all this talk about how women are interested only in a man's money.
That doesn't explain the women who send money (or amazon gift cards) to some "soldier" stationed in California who has a weird accent.
SW-User
I'm surprised people still do it. We're all on to it by now.

We're all becoming experts at catching catfish.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@LordShadowfire Strangely enough, years ago on dating profiles, some men would be holding a fish in their PFP.

Oh but get this - one guy who contacted me on one of those was wearing this yellow rain coat, he looked like a 30 year old version of the Gorton fisherman. Hat and all.

Catfish, the Gorton fisherman's son on dating profiles, gay men who be callin women "fish", men holding a fish on their PFP, Something fishy about the whole situation. 🤔

More fish than AI lovers and scammers combined.

But that don't make sense if you didn't verify your account how can it be

@Lilnonames The alerts about questionable profiles are public.
